Edward Hermann as FDR

When I watch this miniseries, as well as its predecessor, I can't help but think how it would have been if Edward Hermann had portrayed Franklin Roosevelt.

Hermann, IMO, is the best actor to have ever played the part. What's more, Bellamy -while a good actor- was clearly decades too old. Roosevelt was 63 when he died...Bellamy was 84 when this aired and clearly looked it.

This is exactly what I came here to say. FDR, even when he was dying in 1945, still looked younger than Bellamy did (sicker, but younger). Herrmann would have been much better.

The whole miniseries seemed to be made up of actors far too old for the parts they were playing: Robert Mitchum, Sir John Gielgud, Ralph Bellamy, etc.

No way! Bellamy was perfect for the role. He previously had portrayed FDR in the stage and screen versions of "Sunrise at Campobello." Plus, Roosevelt looked 84 during the final stages of his presidency. When Harry Truman met with FDR about the vice presidency in 1944, he immediately knew he would be the next president because Roosevelt looked so bad.

I agree--Bellamy was perfect.Herman was only 41 or 42 when war and remembrance was made(meaning he 37 for winds).

FDR died when he was 63 Bellamny was 73 when he first played FDR--So Bellamy was closer in age to FDR then Herman. Herman would have been perfect if the filmed 15 to 20 years later
