When Did The Series "Go Bad"?

When did you think "Tales From The Crypt" went bad, assuming you think it got to that stage?

For me, and it seems I'm in the majority here, it had to be the final season in which they emanated from London, England. I've actually heard some fans say it started to go bad in the next to last season, but I personally didn't think so. While the eps in the final season weren't all bad, most didn't embody that T.F.T.C. vibe in the previous,(I believe) 6 seasons. I don't know, just my opinion.

Your take?

Yep, as others have said Season 6 was the big decline. There were plenty of clunkers in the first 5 seasons, but 6 had more clunkers than non clunkers. It was also that much more noticeable coming off one of the strongest seasons.

Seasons 1-5 had some bad episodes but the number of good ones was definitely far higher. 6 is when the bad episodes outnumbered the good ones, IMO.

I'd argue the few good episodes of 6 and 7 (Comes The Dawn, Doctor Of Horror, Staired In Horror, Horror In The Night, etc.) almost feel like they could be leftover episodes from the first five seasons that were released later.

I came on here to find out what was up with season 7. Why so much British crap? “British” characters are awful in horror.

I'm not sure, someone may have more knowledge about the subject than me, but I believe the whole emanating from The U.K. in the last season was a cost cutting/saving move. Not sure, though.

I had no problem with the British cast and setting of Season 7, but the writing and entertainment value to a tremendous decline by then.

At least it went out with a bang with the final (and animated) tale "The 3rd Pig". I always wanted to see the Big Bad Wolf win... for a change - and I got my wish. :)

I think it had a good run. Like any series, it has its share of dud episodes.

7, however seemed to be the one season where there was more bad than good. So I would say the final season was the show at its worst. But I did still like some episodes from the season. The ones I liked may be an unpopular opinion.
The Kidnapper
Horror in the Night
Slight Case of Murder
Last Respects was ok, but not great.

It's been a min. since I watched my DVDs, but I think my personal favorite season was 5.

I wouldn't even say the show was on its' last leg when it reached season 6; but it certainly should have ended after the 6th season. Season 7, in my opinion was awful, and it felt like a totally different show.

When they started the British episodes. .imo

For me personally, the show never really "went bad" but there was a definite change in quality starting with season 6. I used to run the Tales from the Crypt Tribute Page, and in some of my research I found some info that may help explain some of it. Prior to season 6 being ordered by HBO, the repeats of TFTC were bringing in pretty good ratings for Fox. HBO had been considering ending the show with season 5, but since the ratings were so good for Fox, Fox helped pay for season 6 - however, they did this with the condition that some of the nudity, swearing and gore be toned down so that they wouldn't have to edit as much for the reruns. I believe that they also took a full day away from filming for each episode. Now I cannot remember after all this time where I found this info (Fangoria maybe?). But it does make sense when you see the episodes!

Season 7 was by far the worst.
