The opening guitar part is basically note-for-note "Black Cat" by Janet Jackson! Did they get permission to use it?

Lol of course not.. this was common on a lot of shows back then. I was watching an old nick game show from the early 90s that ripped off Prince's "Batdance" for its theme music, just a few notes changed here and there to avoid lawsuits.
