Did Captain Lou really voice Mario?

You know in the cartoon, it's credited that he is the cartoon voice of Mario but it doesn't sound like him at all. I'm certain that Danny Wells did the voice over work for Luigi, but what's with deal with cartoon Mario not sounding like Capt Lou?

captain lou played both the live action mario and the voice of the cartoon mario until it changed from the super show to adventures of smb3

It sounds like Albano and Wells' voices were pitched up a bit for the cartoon. They talk much faster in the cartoon than they do in the live-action parts.
