Was Milhouse a good friend for Bart?

There were times I've felt Milhouse wasn't really that great of a friend for Bart, I also sometimes wish Bart was friends with someone who's more normal, cool & laid back but a good influence for Bart, I know if I were Bart's age I certainly wouldn't want to be friends with Milhouse.

Milhouse was Bart's best CHUM... P

Yes.

He is an enabler.

reply

Yes, he's the yin to his yang. Bart moulds himself around this bad-boy image and is overall quite brash, Milhouse is timid and more obedient. Milhouse keeps him on track. We've seen what happens when Bart is around characters like Nelson and Jimbo and it ain't always pretty.

reply

They are self-destructive but at the end of the day they do it to themselves.

reply

Why say was? The show is still going and Milhouse still hangs out with Bart.

When you are a kid, usually your neighbors are your best friends. You are too young to sort out the social structure of who is cool or not. That was my experience. Frankly, most of the people I knew as friends growing up were really nice people, regardless of their social standing.

Only time Milhouse may not have been a good friend was the “I steal your soul” episode.

I think Milhouse and Bart’s relationship was fine. When I was a kid, friends didn’t have to be kind and sweet to each other; there was a ton of insults and apparently vicious behavior done in good heart. That was how many kids got along as friends.
