Why does Lisa enjoy Itchy and Scratchy?

I thought she loved animals and cared for their well-being.

reply

It's a cartoon

reply

That doesn't mean anything.

reply

She enjoys the cartoon. It makes her laugh. The show has flashing lights and makes funny sounds on the picture box

reply

The same reason everybody loves Looney Tunes. The animals depicted are more like hybrids of humans and animals than just the latter.

reply

Because it is funny.

Have episodes shown her watch it that much since after she became vegetarian and buddhist?

reply

Yes.

reply

Hmm, actually, well, Buddhists are taught to acknowledge and accept suffering. Lisa can still watch Itchy and Scratchy; one could even argue it's apart of one's spiritual growth to do so.

On the vegetarian side, Lisa somewhat tolerates other meat-eaters. At the end of that episode (where she turns vegetarian), she accepted Homer's interest in barbecuing, even though she does not want to participate in it.
Itchy and Scratchy is a cartoon, and animals doing violence to each other isn't even the issue. The vegetarian/vegan movement is about humans treating animals better; not subjecting them to factory farming.

Factory farming?

Simply imprinting. You connected Itchy & Scratchy with fun & joy since your early childhood. Then even the most obvious changes in your life wont change much about that imprinting. And smart people realizes and dont fight against it. Cause that would mean that you fight your own character and destroying that changes while doing so.

Do vegetarians object to Tom and Jerry because of animal-on-animal violence?
