Arby's

Do the writers have something against Arby's? If not, why did they occasionally criticize it back in the day?

reply

Maybe they thought the food was disgusting.

reply

Jon Stewart also had a running joke about Arby's food being terrible when he hosted the Daily Show.

reply

I'm guessing he never tried their curly fries.

reply

Their curly fries are good but their meat is terrible. Roast beef is one of the most flavorful cold cuts available, and somehow theirs manages to taste like a wet napkin.

reply

You can also buy their curly fries bagged and frozen. I only find them at Raplhs. Actual Arbys branded fries, and just as good as they are at the restaurant.

reply

Nice. Now that you mention it, I’ve seen those at wal mart.

I don't have a clue, but your post reminded me of when Homer witnessed the destruction of a local fast food restaurant:

"Not the Kentucky Fried Panda!! They were finger Ling-Ling good!!!!"

reply

One of favorite and most used Simpsons quote:

"I'm so hungry I could eat at Arby's!"

reply

I never noticed that. I love the Simpsons but I don't go out of my way to watch every episode.
Concerning Arby's, I'll go there once a month or so. For fast food they seem a little spendy, but maybe not.
I'm not a foodie, so to me they are just an alternative to some other crappy stuff, and they aren't that bad.
Didn't know the Simpsons had them in their sights.

If you've ever seen an Arby's roast beef, before it went into the oven, you'd know why. I worked there in high school and I will never eat their roast beef. Ever. I've worked in other food places and Arby's is the only one I'd ever avoid based on what I saw.

The meat isn't solid meat. It's like Play-Doh. It's formed into the shape of a cut of roast beef, but it's like solid slime. It can be molded into any shape. If you poke it, your finger will go into it and leave a hole.

To this day, I can't understand how it comes out of the oven as meat.

It's hard to explain, because nobody really knows why, but Arby's is a chain that just lends itself to comedy. Maybe it's the goofy ten gallon hat in the logo. Maybe it was that bell by the door that if you rang they would have to say "Thanks guest, you're the best!" Or "You're a winner for coming to dinner." Maybe it was the fact that one of the job titles was actually called quarterback. Perhaps it was the horseradish sauce that they called Horsey sauce. We had an Arby's in my hometown through the 90s that was almost always empty.

I love Arby's and it my favorite fast food restaurant since I was a child. I'm also a Simpsons fan and could care less if the show made jabs at Arby's from time to time and I find all the Arby's jokes on the show funny. The Simpsons even took a jab at Mountain Dew once when Homer picked crab juice over Mountain Dew in "The City of New York vs. Homer Simpson," but funny enough, allowed for their to be Simpsons-themed Mountain Dew drinks in Early 2000's.

Their pop culture jabs are not meant to be taken that seriously.

reply

I know they're not meant to be taken seriously, I was just wondering.
