Ranma's cat fear

Hi, someone relatively new to Ranma 1/2, I just wanted to ask why Ranma is so scared of cats exactly?

reply

Because his father did a training where he put these sausages on him and then he threw Ranma to a whole bunch o cvats

reply

Thanks for letting me now. Just gives me one more reason to hate Genma...

To be fair, Ranma did learn the technique and it helped him beat Cologne.

About that, luke... that's why I like Genma very much!!!. He's a so darned SOB... hahahaha... I like too when he turned into panda for getting rid of trouble and starts playing with the the ball, hahahaha!!! XD

reply

haha, Genma is HILARIOUS.. almost too funny at times to hate him. Cat-foo is such a pointless fighting style.

reply

You didnt mention the fact Genma Tried to make ranma get over his fear of cats. By wrapping him in dried sardine packets fish cake and throwing him in the pit of hungry cats again. He also didnt read the next page in the catfist training book "May cause severe Psychological distress!" lol Genma is sutch an ahole lol

reply

That's the best part about Ranma 1/2, they always make things worse than they already are. I laughed so hard when they said about putting him back there again in order to 'cure' him... and the fact the book even mentioned about causing psychological distress was just too funny.

Genman is GOD!!!

reply

And, of course, the Panda signs are excellent, especially when he whacks Ranma with them.

Genma is possibly the world greatest numbskull. He's underhanded, self-absorbed, foolish... Remember he's the one that told Ranma's mother that they'd kill themselves if he didn't make Ranma a man among men, then promptly got him turned into a girl.

reply

Genma's a magnificent bastard is what he is!

Seriously, you're right. Besides turning him into a girl, Ranma's just a muscle-headed egotist who only thinks with his fists, and it's all Genma's fault for raising him the way he did. I don't think any father in anime has messed his son up more than Genma Saotome. Except for maybe Gendo Ikari...

Genma: "...so I wrapped him up in dried fish and tossed him into a pit of starving cats. And THEN I got him turned into a girl!"
Gendo: "Pfft, that's nothing. I abandoned MY little bastard for a decade, then forced him to pilot an aberrant freak of science against his will and fight the heralds of the Apocalypse -- and THEN he finds out that the chick he's been lusting after for months is an alien-hybrid clone of his dead mother who I created for the sole purpose of looking at her naked. You should've seen the look on his face."
Genma: "I bow to the master!"

Lets see... Made that vow to his wife (without informing Ranma), became the soul cause of Ranma's fear of cats (even when trying to cure it), took Ranma to the springs that made problems worse for themselves (mainly Ranma), has promised to engaged his only son twice (as far as I'm aware, somewhere I got the idea it was three times) to two girls (one to get a food cart and once again failing to tell Ranma), and it was because of him and Soun that Happosai came back years later giving more trouble to Ranma and even leaving Ranma to deal with him. Worse father ever, but imagine how drab the series would have been without him, eh? :D Long live Genma!!

You forgot the time when Genma was so hungry he sold Ranma for two fish, rice, and a pickle. And Genma could probably be blamed for Shampoo as well. Does one blame him for Ranma's engagement to Akane, or is he given a pat on the head for that?

...Worst dad ever, but when it comes to plot devices, BROVO!!
Heh, I'm not done with the series yet, just around volume 14.

Any hungry father that turns into a hungry PANDA is ok with me....

I am Jacks' complete lack of origionality.

Genma is pretty much responsible for everything bad in Ranma's life and that's what makes him such a loveable bastard. I like the way when he sold Ranma for rice, fish and a pickle the way he said it emphasized the fact he got a good deal and was presumably justified in the sale.
