Scott Bakula on the Late Show

I was so surprised to see this hilarious bit!! How terrific! It had been years since I'd seen any reference to Quantum Leap on another show. Enjoy! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R0ScMs6_I8s

This is going to sound nitpicky but I didn't like how wrong Colbert got the Handlink details. Should've just opened the sketch with them in the cab and Colbert acting the Al part instead.

Um, okay. I was just happy to see Scott and have a cute spoof of Quantum Leap. It's been kind of rare these days to even get a mention anywhere.

Well, I thought Scott Bakula was great. He could probably reprise the role of Sam in a sequel if he wanted to. Whispers of a sequel keep popping up, yet nothing ever materializes. Hopefully this sketch will help get something rolling, though not holding my breath...

I wouldn't hold my breath either. Scott was fabulous as Sam. I was such a fan that I made sure I met him a couple of times and went to see him in quite a few live performances in So. Cal. But the role really needs a younger guy now. And Al would certainly need to be younger, too. Sam Beckett is quite a physical role. And of course Scott had many talents they took advantage of in the show, like his singing and piano playing. But he also had to get into fights, play sports, and do a lot of running and stuff. He was in his 30s when he did the show. As someone who's nine years older than he is, I know it would be incredibly difficult to reprise that role at this point. He also has a family to look after, and he said QL led to his first divorce because he was never home. Not sure how much time his new show takes, but it doesn't center on him nearly as much as QL did and still would. It was a great show concept at that time. I do wish someone could bring it back though. It was really touching and taught some great lessons along the way, along with being vastly entertaining.

I should clarify what I meant. Like, I don't see Scott Bakula reprising Sam as the lead in a sequel, but as a means to pass the torch or to be a recurring character. That seems to be what a lot of the pitches for a sequel keep implying, that we get a new time traveler (a new scientist, Sammie Jo, etc) and the quest being to recover/find Sam.

It was. I loved it. Some people say the show is too gentle and sweet for the cynical world we currently live in, but I disagree. We could always use more shows like this one. I mean, whether or not it gets the ratings needed to sustain itself is another matter though. I'd still like to see a mini-series or movie at least.

Yes, I could certainly agree on your scenario of Sam passing the torch somehow. The 90s had some great shows, didn't it? I became a huge fan of Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman, too. Amazing show though I never found it until 2005, go figure. I got to meet Jane Seymour and Joe Lando, too! It's great living in California. 😜 And then there was Pride & Prejudice... My latest obsession is Poldark. I hope you got a chance to see it. It's on Amazon Prime for free if you haven't. As you can see, I'm into shows that take us back in time though I'm not so sure I'd like to actually live back then. 😉

Me too, I really like time travel and shows/movies that take place in the 1800s (usually of the western variety). Since I grew up in the 90s, I got to see a lot of shows of this kind and I've grown attached to these concepts. I honestly do miss dramas with the sincerity that QL had. They're not as common now, unfortunately.

I really liked Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman. I will try to check out Poldark, thanks for the rec!

You'll thank me! Irish actor Aidan Turner is gorgeous and somewhat reminiscent, at least in coloring, of Scott Bakula! He's being seriously being considered to play the next James Bond.

I agree about the dramas these days. They're all about yucky stuff, if you ask me. Who needs to see gross examples of what happens to dead bodies all the time? I tried watching Scott's version of NCIS, but it just didn't grab me, not even with its great leading man.

Thanks for posting this!

You're very welcome! I figured a lot of folks would have missed it since it's on so late. I had no clue they were going to do a bit on QL, with Scott Bakula no less, until I was watching it, and I watch that show about every night. I did a pretty good freakout over it. LOL
