When it will be a remake?

I'm wondering if it will be a remake from this movie. The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe was so cool, and i think Prince Caspian will be as good as this.

I hope so, the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe was great, but it's overdone and some people tend to 4get that there are 7 books not just 1. I hope they remake them all so people who dont-like-reading can still know the full history of narnia.

It'll be interesting to see how a "Prince Caspian" follow-up to the new Narnia film series will be handled. Most readers that I have talked to agree that Caspian was one of the weaker books in the series, being a less-inspiring carbon-copy of "Lion, Witch, and Wardrobe" storyline. But it's a worthwhile stepping stone to "Voyage of the Dawn Treader", which is the strongest of all the books and definitely has all the potential elements for a great movie. I think the key to a successful Caspian adaptation is to make it a much darker version (in a kids-movie way, like the later Harry Potter films). That should contrast its predecessor well enough to be a stand-alone film, as well as strengthen some of the weakness of the plot itself. Personally, I'm looking forward to a visually-stunning Dawn Treader film.

On a similar note, they definitely should not do a film version of "Horse and His Boy". It's so detached from the mythological flow of the series, and serves no purpose other than to introduce a neighboring culture of Narnia. It will also be odd as to when they decide to incorporate "Magician's Nephew" in the film series, as an obligatory prequel at some point within or after the initial chronolgy, or as a prologue to "The Last Battle" (which I think would be cool).

Any thoughts?

I definitely agree that The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe and The Voyage of the Dawn Treader were the highlights of of the whole Chronicles books. I don't necessarily see other films having the same success as TLTW&TW, and I can't imagine that young viewers would be terribly interested in disjointed detours such as The Horse and His Boy, which follows the new [and never heard from again] characters Shasta and Bree from Calormen to Narnia (although Susan, Edmund and Lucy do make brief appearances in this book IIRC). I can only guess that TLTW&TW was the apex of the Chronicles motion picture project, and I'll be curious to see whether Hollywood will go ahead and make all seven books into films. Perhaps they will end up rearranging and combining some of the books (or even just pivotal/relevant episodes in some of the books) into one film, thus compressing the Chronicles into3 or 4 films.

I disagree. I thought that "Horse and His Boy" introduced the concept of someone living a good life, even if they weren't a Narnian (and setting the scene for the young Tash-follower to go to Aslan's Country, in "Final Battle").

Please note that I haven't read the books in about ten years, so I could be confusing parts of H&HB and LB. :)

It's going to be remade in the next couple of years using the same cast as for the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe; see : http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/4625478.stm

What? Are you guys insane? Horse and His Boy has the best movie potential of all the books!!!! Read it again!

I used to hate cell phones but now I hate car accidents.

reply

Oh definitely! The Horse and His Boy was always my favourite and I agree that it has much more potential for a movie than Prince Caspian (which in my opinion is actually the most boring of the four BBC versions), but I suppose they have to stick with what the most unimaginative/under-read people know - which is the four Pevensie children, still as children, in Prince Caspian. But I really, really hope they do Horse and His Boy - we'll all be misisng out if they don't!

The Horse and his boy was fantastic, but my all time fav is the Magicians Nephew

From what I've heard, Prince Caspien is the next to be made into a film, and then it's The Horse and His Boy, and then apparently, The Magician's Nephew, then The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, then The Silver Chair and then finally, The Last Battle.

I've not heard anything about a proposed order for the other films, and I suspect that Walden Media et al have no real idea how to proceed with them! As good a story as AHAHB is, it doesn't fit into the franchise so maybe it would make sense to combine elements as other posters have suggested. Prince Caspian is such a short story even the BBC couldn't drag it out past 2 episodes of half hour length! The main problem is that whilst some of these books are instantly great films - VOTDT just smacks of a cinematic feast - others are just good books which would need a lot of reworking to fit this new franchise.
I agree that these 7 books could end up being maybe 4-5 films.

The Voyage of the Dawn Treader is undoubtedly my fav in both the book and tv series. If it was remade, though, I'd be hesitant to see it because
1. The Disney movie had great special effects but really lame casting (except the White Witch-she was perfect)
2. Because I wouldn't able to handle a reepicheep that wasn't played by Warwick Davis (yes it was a horrible mouse suit with a rat-like tale, but he was my fav character and the only reason I even read any of the C.S Lewis books)
Now maybe if Warwick Davis got to play the voice of reepicheep......ok ok I'm just dreamin'. Disney kills nearly everything it touches in my opinion.

Kind of an odd order, huh? Doesn't follow the chronology or publication order. Still, I won't complain - I love these older movies bur I'm glad this time they will make all 7 into movies, not just four.

that's weird..why would they do magician's nephew randomly in the middle like that?? It should either be the last one, or second to last one as a set up for the last one.... I don't get it.

The facts are, as I know them, are that both The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian and The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of The Dawn Threader are scheduled to be made as a part of an interlocking trilogy with The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe. As you all probably know by now, TCON:PC is currently in production and will be released next May 2008. The films are going to be done in the publication order of the books.

As for the rest of the books, it is nether confirmed or denied that they will make all of the books into major motion picture theatrical releases. Walden Media, the owners of the option to the rights of the books to be developed into films, hopes to make all the books into films. As I had this all out with another user on a another thread, It all depends on money. After the ones currently scheduled or in production are done and released, if any one of the films bomb or if any one of the films doesn't make a big enough profit for them to feel that it isn't worth the effort to pursue the series any further, the series ends.

Disney only has the contract with Walden Media to distribute the films and/or co produce. But still all the main calls for doing the films belong to Walden Media alone.

As for further proof of what I say:

http://www.narniaweb.com/questions.asp?MovieID=1#8
Q: Will all the Narnia stories be produced or just the first?

A: There are plenty of rumors that the series will be shortened to five, but these are just rumors. Walden has never said there were just five movies planned, and in the end the number of films produced will depend almost entirely on how well they do. Walden has optioned the entire seven-part series for film development.

So in conclusion, if you want to see all the books being turned into films, 1) pressure Walden Media to make them and
2) Go out and see the films and support it them any way you can.

Remember it all depends on the money.

And I would also like to point out that Walden Media they are closely tying together reading books and the films. So buy and read the books!!!

Walden Media — What Inspires Us?

What inspires you?

Most likely the same things that inspire and excite those of us at Walden Media. Great stories from great literature. A passionate and compassionate author. Characters we can fall in love with. A tale that enlightens us.

We started Walden Media with a simple goal: bring the kind of books we all love and admire to the screen. And that's what we've done with films based on classic books like The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe or recent award-winning novels such as Holes and Because of Winn-Dixie. We also publish books, like the Paddywhack Lane series and The White Giraffe. Some of our productions and publications are inspired by real-life stories like the incredible career of Jim Thorpe, or the wonders of deep-sea exploration.

But we are inspired by you. You and all the teachers, parents, librarians, community leaders, and most of all, the kids who read and love great books. We do our best to listen to you. You let us know what's "hot." But more importantly, you have a deep understanding of which books and stories are enduring, the ones that celebrate lasting values. The stories that we all love.
