bbc finish your series

before disney completely overtake it the Bbc should quickly do magicians nephew, horse and his boy (HATE THE BOOK) and The Last Battle, perhaps they can make the old children look much younger for the Last Battle. I'd love it if they completed the series

Who are you?

Sons of Mexico, sir

Yeah, the new movie was incredibly bad. The BBC had the right idea in terms of story, acting, and tone. I almost got up and left during TLTWTW05, which is something I never do.

LONG LIVE BBC NARNIA!

Are you mad? i grew up with the bbc narnia and loved it but the new film beats it on all fronts. the only thing the beeb version has is blurry nostalgia. The effects, acting, directing and sets were poor and tacky. I still like the bbc version but the new film is far superior. it may lack the sense of wonder but it gets most of it right. I prefer Alsan in the bbc but tilda swinton is much better as Jadis than Barbara Kellerman who overacts in every scene. I half expect her to put her little finger to the side of her mouth and laugh manically. As i said i do like the bbcs but the new film is superior.

It seems all the people on these BBC boards are lost in nostalgia.

You guys seriously just hate the new one. IT WAS A GOOD MOVIE. I COULD EVEN STRETCH IT TO SAY IT WAS A GREAT MOVIE. It stuck with the book for the most part, it was visually appealing, it had good acting(no matter what some people say it wasnt that bad, Aslan was good, battle scene was AMAZING and the only thing that can challenge it was the LotR battle scenes which are superior.

I'm going to live as like a Narnian as I can even if there isn't any Narnia.

No, but, yeah, but, no, but, yeah, but, no, but, yeah but I know because I'm not wasting police time because you know Micha? Well, she saw the whole thing, right, because she was bunking off school because she was gonna go down the wimbley and get off with Luke Griffiths, only she never because he's been trying to grow a moustache but it just looks like pubes, so she got off with Luke Torbet instead, only don't tell Bethany that because she's fancied Luke Torbet ever since she flashed her fanny at him during Home Ec'.

I actually think the new LWW battle scene was even better than those in LOTR. Taken as a single battle scene, it was complete and it flowed well with very good action and incredible music.
I liked LOTR but after seeing the new LWW battle scene I am personally convinced that it was better than any of the ones is the LOTR trilogy. Can't put my finger on it but I feel like the scenes were a little more artistic as well.

Well it was all WETA LOTR and LWW so no loss on there part but they are the kings off cool graphics and great battle scenes.

The BBC version was much more faithful to the book, and that's the thing upon which I entirely base my personal rating. The new movie changed or omitted too much for me to be comfortable enough to recommend it to anyone. The only things they possibly did better in the new movie was that they got Susan's hair the right color and they got a Professor that physically looks very similar to the illustrations in the book. However, I feel that the BBC got the characters' personalities down better.

reply

I didn't think that the new movie omitted that much. Sure they changed a few things, but most of the things that I noticed was minor discrepancies from the book to the movie. I would still recommend this movie to everyone. It's an excellent movie.

reply

Really?
I love the new movies! Granted I haven't read the series in a while, and I can't tell you whether or not they followed the book, but even so, I loved it! And I looovvee LWW!!!

I prefer the BBC version because it is closer to the book. I didn't mind the Disney movies but they seemed progressively worse than the books as they deviated increasingly more from it.

I was disappointed that BBC did not finish the series, adapting only the first four books (in the order that Lewis released them). It seems to me that BBC had decided when producing the Silver Chair that they were not going to do any more. This is evident given that (I) Aslan gives Jill and Eustace a farewell speech of sorts that in the books he gives to Lucy and Edmund at the end of Voyage - "by knowing me a little in this world, you will know me better in your world" etc, (II) the closing credits of the final episode show footage of scenes from all four adapted stories, (III) these credits end with the face of Aslan roaring.

I agree with papalazarou83 The movie is far more superior to the BBC series.
I own the BBC Series and I love it, it was the definiitive version to me, However I am rather annoyed that they DIDN"T MAKE THE OTHER BOOKS INTO FILMS!!
I like'd the new movie and I personally thought it hadn't omitted all that much, it even had a great scene between Mr. Tumnus and Edmund! that was great! there was tons of wonder in this film. I loved all the characters and was somewhat relieved that they used CGI instead of dressing up people in animal costumes. That would have been something they stole from the old series! I am glad they didn't do it.
I really loved how they did this movie and it is definatley becoming a part of my Home Movie Collection as soon as it comes out, as are the other ones when they come out.
I am glad however that Disney is making ALL of them, at last we will get to see them Vizualized!!!! YAY!

despised the new one. It killed all the magic of the books by focusing on the special effects, not utilizing them to tell the story better. This was just Disney showing off and trying to out-do lord of the rings. These remakes are getting ridiculous, when will people start making original movies again?

reply

The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe 05 seemed to me to be focussing too much on action, suspense and nice camera moves. Unfortunately, they didn't really stick to the story, and so added in little bits like crossing the ice which was breaking. It was a real cool movie just by itself, but when you're comparing the BBC LWW and the 05 LWW, I think the BBC one comes out on top. Admittedly, the acting and obviously the special effects aren't as good as the 05 one, but the story is there. None of the "artificial" suspense and unnessecary action has been thrown in.

Lord of the Rings - filmed in NZ by a New Zealander
King Kong - filmed in NZ by a New Zealander
Narnia - filmed in NZ by a New Zealander

You gotta hand it to us, we Kiwis come out with some pretty fab films!

reply

LotR and KK were by the same person....PJ!

So that's really only 2 NZ'ers.

And Weta rocks! I didn't know they did Narnia's CGI too! LotR's is far superior though.

I love BBC version better. Too much unnecessary suspence is clearly really dumb. That's like adding the 'Mouth of Sauron' sequence to RotK (movie). Everyone knows already what is going on with Frodo and Sam's situation, so we're all like 'Get over it and get on with the movie already!'......
BBC got the actors, their attitudes, and performances spot on. You have to keep in mind, this is a TV miniseries, they had a lot less $$ to go with, and Weta wasn't there to help. (I don't even think it truly existed yet, but that's not the point here)...

you make many very good points cmputraddct but... in the 05 version, the changes they made were not vital changes, meaning, they did not effect the overall story. another thing is that during the filming, C.S. Lewis' step son, Dougless Gresham (sp?) was contantly on set and in the cutting room to make sure the story was not lost.

i love narnia, i read the book almost annually. sure they changed/added some things... but these changes were only to make the book into a movie. So, in conclusion, if you want a dead one account of the book, BBC. If you want to watch a good movie and still get the same story, 05.

Yeah, I know his stepson was there to oversee the main plot. Still, there wasn't a huge unfreezing waterfall they had to cross to get away from the wolves in the book. When I saw in in the movie theatre, I was completely confused. All it did was add some unneeded tension to the movie. The acting for the movie was somewhat out of line with the book's descriptions of the characters as well. I'd hardly call the BBC version a 'dead account' of the book. Outdated with CGI, perhaps, but not dead. It just seems older perhaps because it was done with a low budget before CGI became the main focus of some productions.

I enjoyed both greatly, although I grew up with the BBC movies and love them for primarily that reason. As much as I wish they would finish the series, there's onlny one problem. IT WAS MADE BACK IN THE '80'S! ie, all the actors are either dead or way too old to play their roles by now.

reply

Yeah, I know they can't finish the series. This has basically become a 'choose your favorite' board now.
