Steven Moffat wants to bring back ‘Press Gang’

Well, everyone seems to be talking about it but strangely, it's not here yet....

I'd love to get my hands on the full interview. *hint hint*

It would be cool if Steven Moffat managed to bring "Press Gang" back - sure, most "reunion" shows tend to be crap, but if Steven's writing is as good now as it was when "Press Gang" was being made...At the very least, the whole "did Lynda DIE?" question would be resolved for sure!

I was thinking that maybe getting the cast back together would be a hassle, but Julia Sawalha is keen to do it. I dunno if Dexter Fletcher would want to be involved, but as for the rest of the actors - well, are they doing much else these days?

reply

He's been trying to get Press Gang back for 10+ years.
At one stage, a whole script, called 'The Deadline' (not to be confused with the first series episode 'Deadline') was written, but fell through for whatever reason.

It would be the coolest to have this show come back, with the original cast.

I was also wondering about the last episode as well, when I saw it I was like, "What happens, did she die?" I wanna know what happens next, lol!

In the commentary on the boxset, Julia and Steven Moffat are talking about Press Gang should return as well. That would make my day, if I found out they were.

reply

I just watched the DVD commentaries. Steven Moffat obviously had/has a boner for Julia Sawalha.

reply

Yes, they should bring it back but this time with the original characters as actors getting small, worthless roles in various English movies. It'll be a hit!

reply

If Stephen Moffat wrote it, and the original cast wanted to be in it, I'd love to see it back. As long as these two things are in place, there's no reason why a new series looking at where the characters are now wouldn't work.

reply

I got series one of this on DVD yesterday to rewatch! Loved the first ep again, brings back loads of memories! I didn't realiz it was SM who wrote it. What's he doing these days? You hardly hear of him do you, lol!

Seriously though, would be good to see it come back for at least a "where are they now" one off. Or maybe they could all be running an adult newspaper now!

reply

They are all in their forties and don't seem willing to be seen together again, it seems. Shame.

Steven has been writing for Dr Who (season 5), and been doing a fine job of it. Until recently I wasnt aware that he had done the writing for 3 of my favourite UK shows.

reply

Only 3?

Steve

reply

Yes it should/could be bought back but a la Grange Hill or other type of regererative shows... it should be of course a new generation of kids... cameos from original cast maybe. The pilot could be a school reunion where we see al the old faces and introduced to new members...

Though I feel and prefer Lynda to be dead. She just wouldn't have been discharged still looking the way she did.

reply

it seems unlikely that a programme about running a school newspaper would be popular nowadays, with newspaper reading generally in rapid decline. and. I don't see how it could involve the original cast, who must all be middle aged by now. Unless they came back as teachers or something.
