I think it is meant to be left to interpretation . . . but it is highly plausible. There is no way he could have been living on this earth too long and still get into these situations . . . possibly he just dropped from the sky, not really coming from anywhere? He certainly doesn't have parents, at least not that we see.

I think Mr. Bean is meant to be a prophet (a la Jesus). That's why he comes down from heaven. Note that the choir sings "Hey Jehovah." Coincidence? I think not.

reply

Hey Jehovah----that's what I thought the chorus sang for my first few hearings. Later I began hearing "Ecce homo..."--"Behold the man"). I was curious and I just checked here, on IMDB. In the music credits for the series it points out that it's from a (serious) choral work by the show's music director, and the actual words are "Ecce homo qui est faba" ("Behold the man who is a bean"--which the composer changed himself for the show from the liturgical "Ecce homo"). Thisi still supports your Jesus theory, since the phrase "Ecce homo" was uttered by Pontius Pilate when presenting Jesus to the populace in the story of the Passion.

good interpretation. Mr Bean is naive, simple minded, but his heart is purer than most

reply

Sometimes, he does things that are not exactly pure, but mostly its born of his lack of social knowledge, and childish ambitions(like the guy in the hotel, fooling others, the way he treats his girlfriend). It could be said that bean is an adult child, perhaps what an offspring of another species from space, or maybe just spawned out of nowhere.
