I was one of those people that watched Spencer For Hire just to see Avery Brooks and to hear him speak. I was glad that he was able to have his hair shaved off and to have a goatee once again when he was Sisko on DSNine. Also the man can act.

to see the end of Spenser because I thought Avery would be typecast thereafter. So glad he got the DS9 gig to portray the role of the future "black alpha male".
Avery Brooks is the consummate Black man. He is a renaissance man in all the meanings of the word. He made me really take pride in being a black male in the late 80's and early 90's!

I recently saw him on public TV... maybe Tavis Smiley, not sure. He was promoting a stage play. Still the same guy we all know and love.

As much as I enjoy Avery Brooks, i have to assume he studied acting under Drake Hogestyn and William Shatner.
