been trying to remeber the title of one.
all i remember is in one scene they were trying to resurect some sort of evil by it taking possesion of an unborn baby. everyone is in some sort of lake in a hidden glen or something, and the woman is holding a white porceline (?) mask over her stomach.

bbc kids dramas and shows were so superior in the 80's

does anyone remember 'box of delights' or 'moondial'? totally spooky and so well made. id love to see both of these again if anyone knows of anywhere to get them.

reply

ah ya. i was only four when box of delights came out and i remember very little except for being terrified and a couple of images from the opening credits. still got a shiver when i read the name. loved moondial had read it when i was young.

reply

The box of delights is even now on DVD!

reply

I am doing an English degree with the main character of 'Moondial' (real name, Siri). She's in her thirties now - married and kids methinks living in London. She's lovely and very very friendly and chatty. It was quite nice for all of us to meet at the beginning of the degree and say "where do I know you from?!"

I remember Alfonzo Bonzo. I had vague memories of it being set in a hospital and starring the man from The Smoking Room. Knowing who he was led me to finally discover the name of it!

reply

[deleted]

Other people remember Alphonso Bonzo too!! no one i know seems to remember this. Although Australian do you remember the girl from tomorrow?

reply

Is that the one with the girl with the red hair who had a special headband she used to communicate with her family/spaceship?

Anyone remember 'The Tomorrow People', the one with Todd-from-Neighbours in it?

reply

'Is that the one with the girl with the red hair who had a special headband she used to communicate with her family/spaceship?'

What was the name of that program? after watching it I went around with my headand around my forhead for weeks.

A little later in the 90's but anyone remember Aquilla the one about the Roman Spaceship and 'The Wilde house' or something like that?

reply

The programme was called 'The Girl From Tomorrow' and there was a second series called 'Tomorrow's End' Awesome, just awesome...Just managed to get hold of the 2 series from e-bay for my wife..all right and for me! She's 38 and I'm 40.. so we'll have none of this 'Kid's TV' stuff..lol. Now we just have to wait until 'Escape From Jupiter' and 'Return to Jupiter' are available..

Stop mithering the act, Eddie! Richie's got enough to contend with, what with being cr@p!

reply

"...'Escape From Jupiter' and 'Return to Jupiter'..."

Was that the series with the kid (a Prince?) from some alien world who had come to Earth to escape evil-doers that'd seized control on his home planet? He had a spherical levitating robot side-kick, which was pretty hopeless compared to the 'bad guy' equivalents which had all manner of laser weaponary and such.
It was quite entertaining, but I can't remember what it was called.
I was in Canada until 1987, and the cartoons they used to show when I was a kid were vastly superior to the crap that's around at the moment. There was Ulysses (giant submarine in space), Robotech, Transformers, then later Thundercats, and another - the name of which has skipped my mind at present, it involved characters that could 'transform' into one or more animals depending on the holographic image embedded on a sort of display panel worn on their chestplates. Defenders of the Earth, The Smurfs, The Snorks, Jayce And the Wheeled Warriors, Thunderbirds 2086, Droids, M.A.S.K., The Centurions, The Gummi Bears, Galazy High, Pole Position - you can go on and on :)
Ahhh, blissfil, innocent times...

reply

"...'Escape From Jupiter' and 'Return to Jupiter'..."

These were Aussie live action dramas, about some kids who lived with their parents on a mining colony..not actually on Jupiter but on the Jovian moon of Io. The story revolves around the destruction (by adult incompetence, naturally) of the colony and their subsequent escape in a rickety satellite that just happens to be capable of interplanetary flight.. 'Return to Jupiter'... title says it all really..lol. I really liked these series.

The show you mentioned sounds vaguely familiar, but I can't place it..well I AM 40, that's ancient...

You forgot to mention 'Danger Mouse' in your list of cartoons.. and 'Marine Boy'...lol

Stop mithering the act, Eddie! Richie's got enough to contend with, what with being cr@p!

reply

I remember the Wild House, it was fab...

Anyone remember The Biz?

You never know when you might need a pink flamingo in your pocket!

reply

I've been watchin moondial on youtube! ahh its been so long!

reply

I may be wrong but that one about the girl with the red hair and the head band, I believe that was 'Half-way Across The Galaxy And Turn Left'. I can't remember her real Earth name but I think she might have been called 'X'. I might be wrong but in 'The Girl From Tomorrow' wasn't the lead character a brunette?

If I can't save you, I swear to God, I am gonna stop you!

reply

I remember it! It involved some stripy suited guy coming along to help out Billy Webb didn't it? Then he ended up being evil or something. I remember it ebing the last show on Children's BBC before it finished for Neighbours.

The reason I remember the kid's name is because the follow-up series was called "Billy Webb's Amazing Stories" with no sign of Alfonso Bonzo".

reply

Yeah I do.

reply

yes, it was based on a book, was pretty funny. he said "alley-oops" a lot, and he was somehow magic

reply

Thank you for reminding me of those great shows, especially Moondial. I was only six/seven at the time it but I clearly recall the way it affected me, it was very spooky and I was totally engrossed in it.

I agree that the kids shows produced around the 80's and early 90's were amazing. I really liked 'Five Children and It' from 1991 but I see it's not highly rated on here, shame!

Long live Mr Flibble!

reply

Does anyone remember the ITV drama that used Kate Bush's 'Running up that Hill' as the theme song and had Burnside from the Bill in it?

reply

I think the show with the Kate Bush song in the credits was called Running Scared.

reply

Cheers!

reply

Did anyone watch Jossie's Giants or a programme for really young kids called Tickle Town? Stuff I used to watch between 5 and 10 yrs old was so damn awesome, like the Thundercats (which my well be the best cartoon ever, beating the simpsons [if I may be so bold]). James and the Giant Peach was frikkin awesome as well!!!!

Does anyone know the name of a show that involved two children, brother and sister that had supernatural powers. All I can remember is glowing pebbles and some monsters that looked like seaweed emerging from the sea.

Also a programme about a boy selling or having his ability to smile stolen?

Thanks

I am desperate to find out the name of one the best T.V shows I have ever seen that was shown on Childrens BBC before Neighbours in the (what must have been) the early 90's:

The programme was about a young man of about 14/15 who was visited by a human guised alien - the alien told the boy that he was part of alien family who were sent to control Earth or the city they lived in through several different sections of society and the young man had to go to each member of his alien family and find out what section of society he was meant to control or represent so e.g.

The young man had a brother who controlled money and therefore was a banker
He had a sister who controlled the arts and therefore an artist...

you get the picture In the end the young man found that he represented or would control the future.

It was an amazing series that for the life of me I cannot remember the title off

Please can anyone who knows the title of this Series tell it's name.

Thanks.

Sorry I thought I was quoting someone else's message, but apparantly it doesn't let you quote, lol.
I was replying to visualpic. The one where a boy found out he was an alien, and had to go round finding his brothers and sisters - some of whom were evil - and eventually he found out what his own ability or gift was.

reply

I remember the program, but can't for the life of me remember what it was called...

reply

Hello, don't know whether you got an answer but the show you are thinking of was called Archer's Goon. It was a great book too, written by Diana Wynne Jones. The family members all had odd names from what I recall, I think the boy, the lead character, discovers his real name is Ventura. I think, I may well be wrong. The book is still available from Amazon.

I really loved all the BBC's Kid's drama's like Children of Green No and Moondial, it's a pity they no longer make things this good. I have a son who will miss out on quality children's programming. I guess money is diverted elsewhere these days. Shame.
