Yang Wen-Li or Reinhard?

Who was your favorite? And if you had to pick one side, which one would it be? I for one never figured why Reinhard was supposedly such a "great" ruler in the first place.

Yang because he's funnier and he sees the world from the broadest perspective of any of the characters.

a good example:
“Expressing respect for your brave fight; your health until the day we fight again.” – Count Lohengramm, message sent to Commodore Yang after the battle.

“He means “The next time we meet, I’ll smash you to bits.” – Commdore Yang.

Yeah, I think I would probably side with Yang, too. Reinhard was strong, but he never managed to reach such simplicity and appeal like the always natural Yang.

Yang was a philosopher, a tactician and a thinker, while Reinhard was a politician, a tactician and a leader.

I prefer Yang, because he always tried to understand the world around him and he had his share of doubts. Reinhard had a better grasp of how empire functioned and because he became an emperor, had a much bigger control over empire's assets (thus better able to utilize them during war).

I do prefer Yang because he had doubts. He saw flaws in both political systems and as such was more likely to come up with something that was better than either one of the systems.

As a friend i would prefer Yang as he is talented but funny and does not harbour great ambitions where he is willing to sacrifice everyone to achieve his goals.

They are both very talented but Reinhardt does not appeal to me as a friend. He is no doubt the better ruler as he is highly competent and is even willing to cede power to someone talented while he is alive to ensure continuity. He also took over the empire and reformed it in an instant. Look at the policies he enacts and how he turns the system into a meritocracy and creates equality.

Even if i like Yang i find it hard to support his side. The Alliance is corrupt as hell and they are stupid enough to persecute their only talented military commander. Some even know that if he is gone they will be conquered and yet they persist in it. As sly as those politicians are they fail to read what kind of man Yang is and if he rebels it is because they pushed him. The corruption is so bad in that regime that i can't see much hope in self rejuvenation - it would need Yang to gain power to reform it and purge the crap. I suspect that is not possible and really at least a period of dictatorship or authoritarian rule of sorts is needed.

As such... why not just get conquered and let Reinhardt do it...
