then being hung in a tree while inside the bag and no one died for a long while. is the only clear memory i have of this show, and Jim Henson singing the lion sleeps tonight song

That's "The Soldier and Death" one of the StoryTeller segments from the second half of the Jim Hensen Hour.

The good news is they released these on DVD and its on Netflix if you search for it.
