I don't believe this is the film I'm thinking of, but fans of the mini series may know what I'm talking about.
All I remember in one scene is two children in the forest running up to an old barn, and a human / monkey hybrid thing dressed in a red checkered shirt opens the door.
That's about all I remember.

The scene you are thinking of is from another mini-series called 'Chimera' (1991) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0101577/.
It was sort of about the same thing, a human-gorilla hybrid. It was hell of a lot scarier too.
You never know, it might be repeated on television again soon, since the release of King Kong and the repeat of First Born.
i dont think they'll repeat it the compant went bankrupt i bought a copy of it of ebay under monkey boy for a couple of quid and i lad i knew had all the episodes of it on vhs and put them on disc for me to lend and it was good but would still like to see first born aswell
