SPOILERS: Gor's ultimate fate

SPOILERS ***** SPOILERS ***** SPOILERS

I remember the very sad ending of this mini-series. Gor fails to adapt in human society. There's too much of the beast hidden within him that interferes with his socialization capability with humans even though he appears 100% human.
In despair, Gor returns to the lab and crawls inside the cage to be with his gorilla mother.

The gorilla mother loves her hybrid son, but she has an amazing instinctual, human-like cognizance that her son is an abomination of Nature. Despite her maternal, instinctual love that allows her to hug and caress her hybrid son one last time, the mother gorilla knows better and knows what she must do. She takes matters into her own hands and beats her hybrid son to death. Gor does not attempt to defend himself, instinctually accepting his own fate as necessary, perhaps a form of suicide. The mother gorilla beats her human hybrid son only enough to kill him, not even drawing blood. We assume she crushed his chest with her fists. Her awful task done, the mother gorilla slinks to the corner of her cage to grieve, uttering low mournful sighs and moans. The human scientist responsible for this awful genetics experiment, who used his own sperm for the experiment, arrives too late. He stands there at the cage looking at dead Gor and the grieving gorilla mother. Like the mother, the human scientist understands what ultimately had to be done. It took the gorilla mother to have the good sense and courage to put an end to it all once and for all.

I think like one or two others who have commented on this I was 10 or 11 when I saw it.

It's stuck with me all these years most likely due to the ending. I remember being a bit upset seeing what happened and possibly didn't even understand it (at the time) in the perfect way you describe it above.

Goodness knows what that's done to me as a person, haha.

yeah there's a scene after that, where Gor's baby is born and cries out with a 'Naaa' sound and the look of horror on the Scientist's face as he realises that the baby also has the primate DNA
