If the ninth season should have been shorter

I personally would have preferred a shortened ninth and final season since I think of deck the malls as the true series finale since most of thr original cast except Judy were seen and a nice way to end the show.

Yes you're right, The Christmas episode that year would have made a terrific Season finale. They could have had Judy come downstairs at the very end up that episode saying "sorry guys, I overslept" and Harriette could have said "Judy, it's about time you came downstairs, it felt like you were up there for 5 years".

I think it would have been nice to see waldo return as well.

I heard that I'm season 10, Waldo was suppose to return to the show, but it would have been great if it ended like that because. I literally hated the season half of season 9. I wish JoMarie Payton never left. As much as her character was reduced she really was great on the show and could be replaced. Then to have Judy come down stairs would have been hilarious and great.

I think they did that to the son on "Step By Step."

I guess CBS had to air all 22 episodes of the ninth season. Even though the final batch aired in the dead of summer. From January - June 1998, CBS put Family Matters on hiatus in lieu of the winter Olympics and their 50th anniverary themed programming. Back then, CBS counted 1948 as their anniversary year. After watching the show for eight years, it Friday nights weren't the same without watching new episodes during the spring. CBS also aired more specials on Friday nights than ABC did, so most episodes of the ninth season were only aired once that year
