Final episode

I only watched this series once when it was on originally. Am I correct in thinking that they finished the series by killing off Bob?
The episode which I seem to remember is that he was shot when he, Dave and the Superintendant were kidnapped and locked up in a cattle shed or barn somewhere and he died in Daves' arms.
