Audio mixer shot and killed

I wonder if lack of experience contributed to his death.

I read Jump Out Boys by Hank Barr who did camera, sound and eventually associate producer.

In his second book he was a lot more critical toward the show.

One thing he talks about, in the early years most of the production crew came from news and documentaries and had experience working with military, police or firefighters. Very few came from the entertainment world.

The production crew made more money because of their specialty/experience and working multiple years and weeks per season on the show as there were few who could do the job.

But Fox and Langley Productions found it cheaper to hire from the entertainment/reality TV. They were younger and less experienced on the show and working with police.

Barr, points out in his second book they started bringing in people from reality TV and entertainment and weren't as experienced as the crews in the early years, therefore not completely understanding the situations they maybe walking into.

I can understand they want the good shots, but was it a good idea to attempt to enter the restaurant during an armed robbery?

As what happened the audio mixer was caught in the crossfire.

Would a more experienced crew member have read the situation differently? Would they have stayed outside and shot video?
