Rescue Rangers movie underway (Seriously). Your thoughts?

I just recently found out that Disney is currently producing a Rescue Rangers movie. I wouldn't mind this at all (being a fan, I welcome it), except for a couple things. This movie needs to be handled with extreme care. There are at least two reasons why:

1. This movie will be in live action/CGI. Whenever a movie is live action with CGI characters, it usually turns out to be a lousy movie (Smurfs, Marmaduke, Hop, Garfield, etc.). If the script is written in a way that makes the animated characters just as likable and smart as they were in the show, then that would at least help it not be like all of the other live action/CGI films out there.

2. The movie, I've heard, is supposed to be all about the Rescue Rangers' origins. First of all, we already have an origin story for the rangers: It's called "To The Rescue". This series of pilot episodes that describe their origins, as well as the beginnings of their ongoing issues with Fat Cat and Nimnul were also kind enough to give both direct and indirect explanations and hints of the circumstances they (that being the rangers, Nimnul, Fat Cat and his gang) were in by the time they met each other. Why do we need another origin story? "To The Rescue" is enough!

Maybe if the plot involved the characters trying to solve a case that involved analyzing different moments from their past, then that would sound like an interesting movie premise because it would provide a more direct explanation of how characters with more obscure pasts like Zipper or Fat Cat's gang, came to truly be who they were in the show.

Anyway, that's my opinion on this apparent live action Rescue Rangers adventure. I sincerely do hope this works out.

This new script/origin story is for the younger generation really, who have never seen The Rescue Rangers. I agree with you though, they need to keep the characters as smart and likable as they were in the original series. I had initially heard about this film in 2009, and forgot about it till it was announced as officially being in production yesterday. You can see my post from 2009 about the potential of this movie, under "Get ready in 2012 or 13..."

Oh great, an Alvin and the Chipmunks knock off, if they want us to take THEM seriously and put OUR money out for this, they need to do REAL animation for one.

I don't expect it to be good. I'm mostly just worried about how the characters are interpreted. I don't want Dale using toilet humor or Chip becoming emo.

I'm also really worried that they'll mess up Gadget. She was smart, brave, and capable in the original series. I could see them turning her into a generic "girl power" type while pretending that the original was just a secondary character. (I hate when updates do this.)

Whatever the case, if it means the rest of the series is going to be released on DVD or Blu-Ray, I'm all for it. The movie is bad, it's the worst movie ever made by Disney... I don't care as long as I get the full animated series on home video.

You took the words from my mouth. I just don't want my favorite childhood cartoon to become like The Smurfs movie.

After Guardians of the Galaxy, at least we know Disney's animators can make rodents good in CGI. If they can make Rocket Raccoon work, they could hypothetically do the same with mice and chipmunks.

I agree with the OP.

HavenĀ“t heard much of it. Maybe the proyect is dead.
