Was this show even good?

I know it was a spinoff from jump street but Ive never seen it before and I dont think it was televised in Australia. What was the show like compared to jump street?

reply

It was a pretty good show in its own right that deserved more than one season.

It was televised in Australia and repeated once that I know of. Richard Grieco was great and later in the season developed some good regular characters including the actor from the pilot of 21 jumpstreet Reginald T Dorsey. Lori Petty seemed to launch her career from this show.

I remember watching it -- I still remember my favorite line..

During a car chase, Booker is driving his car (an rather beat up muscle car.), he says to the woman next to him. (Lori Petty, I think.) "You know what I like best about this car? I don't care about it." and then he rams the car they are chasing.

I don't remember anything about Jump street but I used to watch it.

Anyway, I would have liked to see Richard Grieco do more than B movies.

It wasn't quite a chase. They (Booker & Rudd) were waiting for someone to come out of a building & get into the other car. Booker then says "You know what I like best about this car? I don't care what happens to it." Then he charges toward the car that the other guy just got into and swerves to end up with the 2 cars touching side by side.

Only reason why I know it was televised in Australia was because I was in love with Booker (after Hanson that is).

I liked it. For the time it was made in it wasn't too bad. I think comparing it to 21 Jump Street really won't give you a good idea on what the show was like because they were both different.

I might give it a go

I watched it for the first time ever on Tuesday night. Within two hours of discovering its existence, and watching about half an episode on YouTube, I purchased the Collector's Edition set for $9.99 @ Best Buy. I am very much enjoying the show, and it's sparked some serious creativity in me as a screenwriter and filmmaker. Wish there was more of "Booker" to go around because Grieco makes for a very likeable and memorable lead. Hoping to catch his "21 Jump Street" episodes on Hulu shortly.

What annoys me is that the DVD has a different theme tune to the original (problem with music rights) and the crappy new theme tune does not help.

The original Billy Idol opening gave the whole show a different energy.

When you get the DVD and have watched it - get a look at the original of You Tube and see what I mean.

There is also a missing episode "Someone Stole Lucille" (available on You Tube)

And another episode was assigned to the 21 Jump Street DVD.

I really enjoyed Booker - it deserved a 2nd season.

a-boylan-I was equally annoyed by the US collectors edition release of the show for the same reasons you just noted. They did the same thing with the Jump street releases. It sucks when the fans get the shaft as far as content so that studios can save a few extra dollars.

What i did was buy a region free dvd player and then i bought the Australian dvd release of Booker from a seller on Amazon. The Austalian release has all the original music, including Idol's theme song, and it has the Someone stole lucille episode. It still however excludes the wheels and deals episode. But like you said that can be found on the Jump street dvd's.

I was even able to get Jump street uncut by buying the German dvd releases of that show. The text is in German but you can watch the episodes in either english or German. For me its worth it to see the shows as i remember them rather get the edited american releases.

I love this series, the tone seems to take a much more gritty and realistic style that Season 3 and 4 of 21 Jump Street had played around with. The thing is that this series actually did it better, when 21 Jump Street tried they succeeded in a way, but since we already got to know the characters in a more comedic way it wasn't as believable as in this series.
I loved the character development, for a series that only had 22 episodes they did a great job on developing each character. Lori Petty was a definitely plus for the series and its a shame a 2nd season didn't follow

This was a good tv show that didn't receive a fair chance. There should have been a season 2 as the second half of season 1 really started to develop the characters...
