Did anybody watch the final during History at school, I remember watching this at School, we were not watching it for the historical context, but our teacher put it on for us for it's ending powerfully showed the utter sense of hopelessness for the guys going over the top.

The ending to this series is probably one of the most poignant endings ever and thought the writers were brilliant by being able to turn something funny into something heart breaking amd sad

I didn't see it at school but find WWI so poignant for all its futility and waste. When ever I watch the last scene, I always cry, it is so heartbeaking.

The ending was actually created by a child who wrote in about the show if I recall.
