Re-dubbing In Blackadder Goes Forth

Did anyone notice this. In the episode where Blackadder gets sentenced to death by firing squad you can hear some of the words and sentences spoken out by Rowan Atkinson have been re-dubbed by himself. Anyone know why they did it?

Yes, I've noticed that. Since the words overdubbed don't seem to be out of sync with the movement of his lips, I don't think the lines were changed; I'd guess the sound was just badly recorded in those shots, and had to be beefed up in postproduction.

I have nothing to say, I just love this hat.

It's only when he speaks the name of the billiant lawyer "Massingbird" so I think they had to change the name from something else. Maybe the original name was too close to a real lawyers name, or the name was considered to offensive for broadcast on the BBC.

Interestingly they used the name "Massingbird" in "Private Plane"... So it looks like they dubbed it at the last minute and forgot they'd already used that name elsewhere.

Yes, I've noticed it for some time and have never been able to decipher what he originally said. I was going to start a thread to see if some other keen-eyed viewer had spotted it too, but I won't now as I found this thread first.
