I never got that image. I just took it to be an absurdist statement involving an anachronism and a highly unlikely idea. The idea of a man of pious standing -- an evangelist -- as in one who proselytises or preaches, and transposing that idea into an image of said man touring the Holy Lands for the purpose of performing on a piece of exercise equipment that probably wasn't invented until the late part of the second millennium A.D. Your explanation makes perfect sense aswell, though. share
It means as there never was a St Paul the Evengelist trampoline artiste that the person BlackAdder was talking to has the worst act possible. Probably Baldrick.
