Meanest Blackadder

Which Blackadder do you think was the most unsympathetic?

I'd rate them in order of least evil to most evil like this

Captain Blackadder

I don't think he is really evil at all. Unlike the other Blackadders he is motivated purely by his desire to avoid being shot and killed in a pointless conflict rather than wealth and power.

Thus any shady thing he does like take the credit for George's paintings is more understandable.

Also he is the only one who expresses concern for others like when George is out in the trenches dressed up as a woman or in Private Plane when Baldrick doesn't duck for cover during the air raid, or during the memorable final scene where he wishes his men good luck and even shows respect to his former nemesis Darling.

He also even had his limits when tormenting Darling too.

The only bad thing he did was betray the Nurse, but then again he did think she was a spy and who knows maybe he rectified his mistake and saved her in time?

Prince Edmund


Again I don't think he was that evil. You have to remember he was born in a more brutal time too and a lot of the people he killed like Angus and The Witchsmeller were brutal, murderers anyway.

He was clearly of a higher moral standard than those around him in regards to the witchhunts viewing them as barbaric and senseless. Also when he wanted to overthrow his family he wished for them to be banished which for someone from that time is pretty lenient I'd say.

Also bare in mind his dad was a total c^nt to him too. His dad was happy for him to die in the Priest episode, happy to use him as cannon fodder in his first episode, happy to watch him die and be utterly humiliated by Angus in another and generally ignored him or forgot he even existed. Thus to simply banish him was quite lenient for a man from Edmunds time.

Lord Blackadder


He was a lot more sly than Prince Edmund and a bit more amoral, but again bare in mind the time he came from and the fact that he was in quite a difficult position too. He had to constantly deal with a psychopathic Queen who would have chopped his head off on a whim. Also he was forced into things like being the Queen's chief executioner against his will.

He also was shown to genuinely care for his fiance Bob, and at times was a lot more generous to Percy and Baldrick than other Blackadders might have been. He was happy to share his wealth and glory with Percy and Baldrick in many episodes such as the one with Tom Baker where he invited them along on his holiday and looked sad that Percy wasn't joining in the merriments with him or when he beat the Baby Eating Bishop of Bath and Wells.

Still despite this he was mostly a dick to both Percy and Baldrick (Percy in particular) and he though he didn't want to be the Queen's executioner he didn't have any trouble with it and even killed a guy a couple of days early to have the week off. He also was a total dick about the people being captured and to Bob's dad too LOL.

Blackadder 3

The most evil by far. This Blackadder is an out and out villain. He murders so many people from the Scarlet Pimpernel to two actors that he has tortured to death.

Also he has absolutely no loyalty or affection for anyone around him. He beats Baldrick on a daily business, he is awful to Miss Miggins when she tells him she loves him, and he has no loyalty to George "clear that dead Butler away".

He is just vile in every way, but the funny thing is he is the only Blackadder who is not only not violently killed but actually wins most of the time in the series and in the last episode too.
