dalntrace change

wow just watched the new episode and dalntrace has changed massively, you'd expect it to of been modernised but the layout totally changed,

At first i thought it was the smaller house they moved to but then it showed the outside and a sign on the wall with the name

im presuming they did not have access to the old sets any more with it moving from the bbc to the itv or they were maybe destroyed but they could of at least made an effort to make the lay out some what similar to the old one

any one agree

This was the thing which, for me, was most jarring. I would expect decor to have changed over the years but the position of doors and the rooms made it seem to be a totally different house to the old setting.

reply

yea although i suppose people can remodel a bit this was extreme the stairs moved to the other side of the hall the kitchen went from been at the end of the hall and the the right to behind the living room where the patio doors used to be to the garden, im sure well see even more strange changes as the show gos on too

It's not the same house, even the exterior is different from the original used in the 1990s..........no doubt Tracey just named the new house after the old.....

reply

no its implied to be the same house its mentioned that Dorian used to live next door to it, and in the earlier seasons Tracey never sold the house she rented it out to some one so it gos to reason once she was back on her feet she would move back in, its also mentioned that Sharon was not getting the en suet she had for years before, this is the point of the thread though they are implying she moved back but have made no efforts to make it look much the same,

What would be the point of getting a new house and giving it the same name as the old one when its also made clear that Tracey and Darryl hadn't been together for some time

Each to their own opinion......... I didn't see it as the same house, in as much the same way that Garth has come back from Australia with a woman who wasn't the woman he married in the last episode he was in, who was also pregnant with his child. Point being, things change. And you ask what is the point of keeping the same name? Same goes with personalised reg plates on cars..... sentimentality.

At the end of the day, it's a work of fiction to be enjoyed. And as I started with, so shall I finish.........each to their own opinion.

I didn't think it was even the same house.
They moved in the last series.
Then its fair to say they have moved again since the last series being 15 years into the future. Pretty sure its a completely new house.
And as for Sharon having the en suite, she probably did in this NEW house. She lived there with Tracey for anything up to 14 years.

reply

That is exactly what I was going to say. It can't possibly be the same house because they moved in series nine.

Let Zygons Be Zygons.

reply

It is meant to be the same house BUT for whatever reason they couldn't use the original property and found one that looks similar (on the outside at least. If it were me I'd have just used the exterior and then filmed in a studio to look like the original place.

If you look very closely during the BBC series the exterior isn't shown very often and it changed from being a driveway with two entrances to having one entrance and a large lawn (Sharon mowed it once!)

This house is also called DALANDTRACE rather than DALENTRACE.....

reply

If that is the case then it is extremely bad continuity because they moved in the last series.

They moved part way through Series 7 into a much smaller property in the Hainault area. They kept ownership of Dalentrace by renting it out, this serviced their debts and paid the rent on the smaller house, which they called Shalentrace. I reckon somewhere between 1998 and 2014 their financial situation improved somewhat and they were able to move back to Chigwell.

The fact that the house looks so very different inside and its not been mentioned on-screen suggests to me they couldn't film at the original house (maybe the owners wanted a lot of money?) so decided to find somewhere that looked similar enough on the outside.

reply

However if it is supposed to be the same house then there is no reason why it should look different inside. The inside is a studio set and would be easy to recreate.

"The fact that the house looks so very different inside and its not been mentioned on-screen suggests to me they couldn't film at the original house (maybe the owners wanted a lot of money?)"

Interior shots are filmed in a studio, not in the actual house, so different owners wouldn't make a difference.

reply

i was thinking it must be another house and she just named it the same as the original delatrace had a swimming pool and this one does not

reply

The change I reckon is simply being on a different channel and bad continuity, if they rented the house from the past out then kept it.
It was always studio based even if exteriour house is different.
Anybody else noticed how different and much dimmer Garth seems to be in the new series as well, even since the change from Matt Willis to this bloke.
Wonder why Matt SAvage couldnt return sure I saw him as a cop in Eastenders not that long ago

reply

matt gave up acting ages ago, he is just now a musician (if you like his sort of stuff)

reply

I know he's in The Levellers these days

To avoid annoying myself at bad continuity I just told myself it was a new house:

* Tracey named the house similarly to their first house
* Sharon must have lived there at some point between 1998-2014 with her hence the "en-suite" comment
* Sharon finding money in the loft - they literally dumped the contents of the last loft into their current house - tho the fact that the £10 notes were post-1989 was really bad continuity!
* The reference to Dorien living next door - maybe she has done at some point? After all, she also moved at the end of series 7.
