How many knew the cartoon but not the movie as a kid.

That's what happened when I was a kid watching this show. I knew the cartoon, but had no idea it was originally a movie. It was probably because I was born after the movie was new. But had no idea of it's exsistence until like 1995 or 1996.

You wouldn't of imagine how confused I felt when I saw how differently the movie portrayed compared to what the cartoon had. But it didn't ruin my vision on one of my favorite shows growing up.

Did any of you felt the same way when you discovered this was based off of a movie or did your parents actually told you it was based off of a movie. Cause I didn't think mine ever said I was watching a cartoon version of something that already exsisted.

The same thing happened to me. I didn't find out about the movie until like maybe '96 and '97. I can't remember, lol.

I can't remenber what year I saw the whole movie, cause let's say I've always seen the ending but not the beginning whenever it was on TV. I was surprised on what was editted out when I got it on DVD. Course TV networks tend to do that to a lot of movies with harsh profanity in them.

reply

Bump. Also I like the cartoon a tad more than the movie.

I knew about the movie, I think my mom didn't want me seeing it. I and my younger brother did get to watch the cartoon, though, and we were pretty faithful fans. I didn't get around to seeing the movie until 2002 or so, at a midnight screening in a theater. I noticed the differences but could still appreciate each production on their own merits.

reply

I did. I knew of the cartoon but not the movie until years later.

I knew about the movie, but I had only watched it like once in my childhood, somehow I remembered it being very different from the cartoon. But I didn't see the movie again for years. I now own it on DVD quite happily. I can only speculate as to why Adam & Barbara Maitland weren't on the show.

reply

I remember I watched the show but only very vaguely remember it. I think I saw the movie or parts of it but honestly don't remember. It was on recently and I meant to watch it but forgot. But I definitely watched the show for sure.

Same here, I watched and loved the cartoon, then when the movie was going to air on HBO or Cinemax back in the day I wanted to watch it. My mom had to sit me down and explain it was nothing like the cartoon, Beetlejuice wasn't in it too much and he was very, very mean in the movie... I still loved both.

Sorry, two's company, and three's an adult movie.

Lol wow! I thought I was the only person who knew about the cartoon show first before the movie. I became a big fan of Beetlejuice right away from watching the show and going to Universal Studios a couple of times where I got my picture with him. But I never knew the movie had ever existed until a couple of years ago and I recently saw it in '08 and love it!

Counting down the days until Alpha and Omega comes out. Cannot wait! ^^

Honestly, I can't even remember which one I knew about first. In my house it was a toss up, because my mom let me watch horror flicks. But what I DO remember is watching the series religiously. I'd be so angry if I missed it. Good times. ;)

I used to watch the show first & didn't know about the movie til years later. So when I saw the movie I was all confused, like why Beetlejuice & Lydia weren't friends & who the Maitlands were & why they were there.

Don't read this

Same thing happened to me as well, loved the cartoon growing up and still do, the movie came after not knowing there was such a thing but I got to watch it and I loved it as much as I did the cartoon...gotta go get my copy of the movie since it has the first three animated episodes on it.

RELEASE THE BEETLEJUICE CARTOONS ON DVD ALREADY!

I watched the cartoon all the time as a kid. I think it was about '96 when I found out about the movie. My cousin and I, he was 6 and I was 8 at the time, were at my grandma's watching the Beetlejuice cartoon, and he mentioned owning the movie. I'm like, there's a movie? Then he said the movie wasn't a cartoon and he mentioned Adam and Barbara being dead. I was like, who's Adam and Barbara? Well, 3 years later, I'd find out. In '99, I was at a friend's house, and she was flipping through channels and turned the movie on. So we saw bits and pieces of the Beetlejuice movie. I think it was about '05, when I bought the DVD, when I saw the movie all the way through. I like the movie and the cartoon both the same. I watched some Beetlejuice episodes for the first time in ages on youtube last night, and I gotta say, the cartoon is a whole lot funnier to watch after watching the movie lol! :)

On a side note, in the first ep. Critter Sitters, I cracked up when both Beetlejuice and Lydia were singing Day-O at the beginning.

I love Jesus Christ and am 100% proud!

Wow, I'm the exact opposite from everybody! I've loved the movied for a long time and didn't find out about the tv series until recently. Now I'm in love with both!

I also saw the cartoon first before I saw the movie. I didn't see the movie until around 1999 or 2000 and I was surprised at how different the cartoon and the movie were from each other. But, I still enjoyed both for what they were!

I also saw the cartoon before the movie, it was around 94 or 95 when I saw the movie, I was very surprised as it was almost nothing like the cartoon and Beetlejuice wasn't in it much.
