Did this actually air in the US for all 11 seasons?

I decided to watch/re-watch the series. I'm on season 5 and fast forward through at least 20 min of each ep. At this point, the acting and writing is so unbearably bad I don't know how in the hell it got to season 11.

Money.

That or y'know sheer desperation.

Possibly a conspiracy and or corrupt studio network execs.

Perhaps hard graffth (however that word is spelt)

Back in the day I'm pretty sure I watched all the episodes and always liked it, but of course that was 20-25 years ago. Now when I see some of the ridiculous story lines I also wonder how it could last so long.

For example, the show I'm watching right now is in season 8, "No Way Out". Craig and April are trapped under a power plant. Why are they trapped, you ask? Because there is a shark at the other end of the tunnel.

First of all, Baywatch writers seem to think all dangerous see creatures are out to get humans and have nothing better to do than stalk humans. (See episode "Eel NiƱo"). Really? Just because there's a shark in the ocean does not mean it is out to get you!

Second, just because there was a shark at the tunnel entrance an hour ago does not mean it is waiting around for it's human lunch.

Third, Craig has a knife! He used it to cut away April's sleeve. He could use it on the shark, if the shark were actually hanging around waiting to devour the two humans.

So anyway, the writers do a lot of stupid stuff. The show probably lasted so long because ALL the lifeguards are beautiful and sexy!

The episode I mentioned? You've gotta watch it. It's a hoot and a half! Hours after our hero's became "trapped" the shark finds it's way into the tunnel! If the shark could swim in, why couldn't Craig and April swim out? Because they were afraid of the shark! I love this series, it's a great comedy.

The show was syndicated would air at weird times like 11PM on Sat nights or 5PM on sat.

Also UPN/WB/CW was in their early days so they only took up 2 nights a week, so if you where a WB network you had 5 other days to either air reruns, movies or Baywatch...baywatch won.

This was before youtube and video on demand, I sometimes watch Baywatch Hawaii on Youtube fun show, awful show but fun

I have been looking over the seasons of baywatch and after season 8, it's not worth watching. Baywatch Hawaii was a joke. No star power. I think they even killed off Hasselhoff if I remember correctly.

reply

They killed off Stephanie. It was the day of or just after she got married (S7:E13).

The show was pretty cheap to produce (they didn't need a lot of sets and they got rid of most of the actors after a few years, before they would be looking for big bucks). They also appealed greatly to teenagers with all the T & A.

It's not that hard to believe. It was the most watched show during the 90's. It was even in Guinness World Records, and is still very popular in some countries.
It was a very lucrative show that made a lot of money so of course they kept it for that long. It might not have been a big deal in the US but around the world it was huge and that's where most of the income came from, I assume.

People have no idea just how big it was back then, so they dismiss it. Yet I am sure future generations will ask how shows such as Grey's Anatomy, CSI and 2 & 1/2 Men & American Idol could air for so long.

Once the cast was practically made up of just Playboy models(sometime after Donna D'Errico joins the cast) is generally when one should stop watching. Their attempts at dialogue is cringe inducing.

When there's no more room in Hollywood, remakes shall walk the Earth.

TV programm/Show's Production etc has completely changed since then. I remember: everybody watched it. Everybody talked next day about the episodes. Everybody loved The Hoff and Pamela... but simply: everything has changed since then. While back then those have been "light" entertainment today we're getting more hardcore and big Budget Shows like "Hannibal", "The Walking Dead", "Bates Motel", "Fargo", "Games of Thrones"

Most of the people on here are idiots... the show was the MOST WATCHED SHOW ALL OVER THE WORLD. I think it was #1 in over 200 countries at one point. Thats why the show lasted 11 years
