Does No One Remember Nellie Bly and Elizabeth Bisland?

Between November 1889 and January 1890, Nellie Bly (for the New York World newspaper) and Elizabeth Bisland (for Cosmopolitan magazine)had a race around the world to test Jules Vern's story. Bly went east and Bisland west. Bly won with a time of 72 Days 6 hours 11 minutes. Bisland's time was 76 1/2 days. This race was completed only 17 years after Verne's book was published.
