Different Performers Provide Different Interpretations

Each actor relies on his own background, history, training, and a multitude of other factors when creating a role, and providing his own version. So,no two performances will be exactly alike.

It's my understadning that Peter Ustinov, the fine interpreter of Detective Fix in this version, was originally intended for the role in the 1956 version. His schedule and commitments, however, required that Robert Newton be cast, instead. And Newton also did a splendid job.Buthis own traits did change the part.Fix,instead of a funny, fumbling bumbler, becomes a drunken psychopath.Bravo!

Yeah I couldn't agree with you more.
I think this outweighs the original 1956 film.
And I don't doubt, the 2004 awful Jackie Chan flick.
Peter Ustinov & Eric Idle both steal the mini-series IMO!

I love that miniseries as I wished it was shown more on tv!
