No, its actually meant to be a sequel to the show. The first episode has some revelations about the incident at the start of the film, but its supposed to take place a couple months after the show, albeit with the one change that Sykes daughter isn't getting married, and is still late teens. Why Gary Graham's Sykes is obviously much younger than James Caan's version, though in George's case, his son is older now.
