shareBasically, 'Dawn Of The Dead' was known as 'Zombie' in Europe, and Fulci tried to cash in on the 'Zombie' craze by dubbing his movie 'Zombie Flesh Eaters' 'Zombi 2'... posing as an unofficial sequel. The sequel to 'Zombie Flesh Eaters' was then called 'Zombi 3; Thus the confusion.
Dawn Of The Dead = Zombi
Zombie Flesh Eaters = Zombi 2
Zombie Flesh Eaters 2 = Zombi 3

Because Romero was also Fulci's idol and mantor in some ways.... He wasn't trying to really rip off Romero, he was paying tribute to Romero's great work and also using the said master's films successes to get his own a ride.... Its like when Rob Zombie did House of 1000 corpses.... it was almost identical to Texas Chainsaw Massacre.... it was a tribute to that movie, and every other movie like it... it was 2 hours and some change of flattery, a thank you.... and thats what Fulci did in a certain sense.
