Who'd be the best person to play Billy now?

Estevez is too old now. But if they tried to make a more historically true story on Billy the Kid, who'd be best to portray him these days?

I'd say Emile Hirsch would be the best choice these days.

I'm afraid if they tried to remake this it would bomb and not deliver the same thing Estevez did when he originally played this character.

Exactly! Estevez was phenomenal as Billy the Kid! There is no one else in my opinion.

They better not be thinking of remaking this, the original cast was way too good to be replaced! Especially Doc, he was always my favourite!

Yes the whole cast was perfect and I loved it too! I do not think they should try to remake this movie at all and if they do make it in their own vision instead under a different title.

Another thing is I have not seen them do Billy The Kid on as being born and then going from there to lead up to the whole history of his back ground. I would love to see someone out in Hollywood do that to explain his whole back ground of Billy The Kid. What made him alone without a father figure in the world. Could it have been his family traveling out West to start a new life coming from their heritage and the father gets killed? Things like that would be interesting for a movie.

I agree with you, revol_sukiw. A remake of Young Guns would be a bad idea. However, I think a whole new movie about Billy the Kid would be an excellent idea.

I remember watching this when I was 16 years old at the movie theater and you bring up a very good point that Estevez is perfect for the role and why ruin the movie for? It is going on now 25 years since the movie came out and I loved it then and I still love it now!

For some reason, others who have replied have failed to notice that the OP was asking who would play Billy in a "more historically true story"--not a remake of Young Guns.

For my two cents, I think James McAvoy could play him. Or maybe Jake Gyllenhaal. They both look young enough but have the chops, I think.

Jeremy Renner would be my choice.

Since some time has passed since I asked this question, I just want to revise my suggestion.

I think Dane DeHaan would be an interesting Billy the Kid if they decide to examine the Kid's life again.
