Katherine discussing marriage

It was classic when she was saying how she thought this was the weekend when Jack would propose,

'I've cleared the month of June, and I am, afterall, me!'

Such a funny line and really well delivered.

I thought it was funny but a bit unbelievable. Who in the hell says something like that? lol

reply

lol, it was definitely unrealistic. I just love the way she says it though - she plays it deadly serious

I completely agree. The line took too great a leap for the sake of a laugh. Katherine had proven—and would continue to prove—her egotism in other more believable ways. This line was not necessary.

I really wish there weren't people this self-absorbed in real life, but I can think of one person I know off the top of my head that has said something quite similar.:/

That line could've been such a turnoff for any character, but I agree: the humor was all in the delivery.

I laughed my ass off.

The irony was priceless considering that Jack was just planning on dumping her, not proposing to her.

Jack was not high on the corporate ladder (at least not relative to Kat) and so why would she want to date him, let alone marry him?

Jack was established as a stereotypical man who wants some action but would quickly see through Kat for the fake she is and would not pursue her for long.

Hard to see them together for ANY length of time.

I had similar thoughts when I watched this for the first time yesterday, however I believe she liked him because (well, besides the obvious answer being he is Harrison Ford ;) she was able to boss him around.

I noticed he let her lead him around, that is until he actively makes the decision to throw his career on the line to stand by Tess. You can even see it when she returns after breaking her leg and while she is throwing herself at him, he can't firmly say no and break up with her right then and there. I believe he was very intimated by her, and in turn gave her what she wanted.

Thus, she dropped the hints about marriage and when she wasn't met with resistance just assumed it was a matter of time. They probably hadn't been together for that long - Kat mentions they are finally in the same city. I took that as they had been having stop-over flings from time to time, and only recently while in the same city started seeing each other seriously. Kat thought it was a step in the right direction, Jack was starting to realize she wasn't the type of woman he wanted to be with - thus the break up that ultimately took place!
