Had Jack never been to Katherine's office before?

I just watched Working Girl again today for the first time in years and it suddenly dawned on me that when Jack went to Petty Marsh to give Tess the briefcase as a gift, he should have known that she was in Katherine's office. Since he and Katherine had been a couple for a while, it just makes sense that he'd been there before. I know that Katherine was out of the country at the time but it didn't seem strange to Jack that someone else had taken over her office and was using it as her own, including answering the phone with "Tess McGill's office"?

I'm not going to lose sleep over this but it seemed really obvious to me when I watched it today. Did anyone else wonder about this or am I the only one?

I doubt he had been there before since Katherine was a fresh transfer into the office from Boston. And considering that he was planning on dumping her, I'm guessing the relationship wasn't going very well up to that point so he probaably hadn't dropped by.

Thanks, star. I guess I missed the part about Katherine being newly transferred from Boston.

Also Tess had only been working for Katherine a short time.

It was mentioned in conversation in the brief scene with Olympia Dukakis as the H.R. woman.

Gosh, you'd think he'd at least know her work phone number.

He was already trying to break up with her when she got to New York.

They were supposed to get together on the skiing trip so that he could tell her but he didn't make it.

Emotionally, he was long gone.

I thought the EXACT Same thing! Wouldn't he be a little skittish especially when she answered his call "Katherine Parker's Office" knowing that they would know each other since they both did the same job and the same office...

Katharine had just transferred from Boston to New York when Tess got the job working for her.

Tess also spoke differently on the phone with Jack than she did with other people.
