Weaver was screwed big time back in 1989

She got 2 Oscar Nominations for Best Supporting Actress in "Working Girl" & Lead Actress for "Gorillas in the Mist" and she lost both to a bland Geena Davis in "The Accidental Tourist" and for an unlikeable Jodie Foster in "The Accused", poor Sigourney, she deserved better...

You are totally right! !

She was the best thing about Working Girl. And she was awesome in Gorillas In The Mist.

She's one of the best film actresses of her generation imo. But she has had and still has a very successful career and that sort of longevity is very rare in Hollywood.

It's nice to see all the praise for Weaver's performance. I've heard nothing but good things about her as a person and as a professional. Her performance has aged so well because she doesn't play the role like a villain but as a foil. And even in her last scene, Weaver retains a sense of dignity. She is elegant in this; her wardrobe is tailored perfectly.

particulary losing to Geena Davis who was a total fluke and although she's not a bad actress and that was not a bad performance at all, still, ugh, this subject makes me furious because it's very unlikely she will ever receive another nomintaion and she does pretty mediocre stuff lately, the leftovers that glenn close rejected after they had been offered to meryl streep.

She was the first actor to have been nominated twice in the same year to lose either award, she had the industry respect and her film was loved; on paper, she had everything going for her so I don't understand what went wrong...I guess she split votes with her other nominated performance.

I don't think she deserved an Oscar for either film, anyway, but it must have been awful to have been her that night.

She was also screwed out of the Oscar previously for Aliens.

Definitely agree about Aliens. She was amazing in that.

She was wonderful in both Gorillas in the Mist and Working Girl but '88 was a tough year.

I also thought she deserved a Supporting nomination for The Ice Storm. She was great in that.

Actually, Jodie Foster did a serious role in Accused and thought she deserved it. I'm not so sure about her winning supporting actress for this film though. She isn't really a nice person.

Weaver has been screwed way more since. She got nominated for that junk but didn't get a nomination for Death and the Maiden? Or Ice Storm? Or Snow Cake?

and for an unlikeable Jodie Foster in "The Accused"

Foster was amazing in that part. It was just bad luck that she was nominated against her.

Still, Weaver should have been nominated and even won for at least Death and the Maiden. The part earned Glenn Close a Tony award on Broadway and not even a nomination for Weaver? Come on! She was amazing in it.
