Why is the Tartan DVD in Mandarin in UK?

'2005 Tartan release features the film uncut but with a Mandarin Soundtrack instead of the original Cantonese soundtrack.'

I had seen the film on video and vividly remember the Cantonese version of 'Take My Breath Away' and just watched it on DVD and noticed the song was missing. The above information comes from this website.

Does anybody why this was released in Mandarin here in the UK?

Tartan's release of Days Of Being Wild is also a Mandarin dub, which ruins the film in my opinion. From what I've heard, Tartan were unable to acquire the rights to the original release of both films, but wanted to rush them out anyway to cash in on their release of 2046. So, they purchased the rights to the Mandarin version from some Hong Kong TV network, which means that not only have the actors voice's been replaced, but also the music (the replacement music in Days Of Being Wild is abysmal!!). I think it's a disgrace to be honest, and shows a complete disregard for Wong's work and his fans on the part of Tartan. I emailed them last month on the subject and, naturally, I've yet to receive a reply. Hopefully someone else can offer some further information regarding this Tartan-goof.

And badly dubbed at that. But it did not make much difference to me as I did not care for the film anyway. For starters, the comical aspect did not mix well with the violence portrayed. And Little Brother's character/acting was annoyingly over the top.

5/10 on my score card. At best.

They requested the Cantonese track but were given the Mandarin dub by the studio.
