Would you recommend this movie?

Would you recommend this movie to a man who is in love with the Sherlock Holmes stories? It sounds like a very clever and intelligent comedy.

YES

Its a brilliant film, not VERY clever but better than the stuff you get these days and I think it adds alot of charm to the Sherlock holmes and Watson characters.

reply

Yes, easy (saying this also as a big fan of Holmes stories)

Despite the twist, it's up there with the great Holmes - film adaptations, Murder By Decree, Private Life, and the best of the best, the Russian serials with Vasily Livanov!

Definitely recommend it. It's funny and clever. However, it is a spoof of the classic Sherlock, so you need a sense of humor.

Yes, the humour is in a lot of ways very gently in it's mocking of holmes and watson. It's not a send up of the pair, just an imagining of what it would have been like if...
Don't be decieved by the old-fashioned style of the film and the humour. It's not cutting edge in anyway, but it's so perfectly executed by the two leads - especially Caine - that it's comedy gold.

As a Sherlock Holmes fanatic myself, this is the only Holmes comedy I truly recommend. As a general rule, Holmesian spoofs or farces tend to be abysmal. Not only disrespecting the canon, but committing the worst sin of all in the comedy world...being dreadfully unfunny. On both counts, this film is a rare exception.

I recommend this movie to everyone.

Yes, it's a charming and funny take on the Sherlock Holmes legend.

It's a very likable comedy; not a great one but a good one, with some good lines and solid laughs provided by the stars and a fine supporting cast.

What do you think this is, a signature? It's a way of life!
