What kind of animal is that?

You mean the devil dogs? They're...dogs. Very wild boar like and with huge rat tails. They were 'played' by Rottweilers in costume - no joke. x

And they are pretty cool... But, they resemble the Killer Shrews in "Attack of the Killer Shrews!" more than anything else.

I can see in the part with the Death Dog, that Willow's little girl, Mims was crying, is it because she was scared of that dog?

I was also terrified of those devil dogs when I was a kid. Watching as an adult it really highlights how much more films can impact you as a child with even the weakest SFX.
