Who saw this in theaters?

I did when i was 6 years old 3 times and dug it! i had some merchandise too.

"Unicorn, mermaid, vampire, sorceress! No name you'd give her would surprise me i love whom i love"

reply

I did. I would have been 10 or 11. We also had the vhs tape when it was released. The whole family loved Willow.

reply

I did. I was 15. It was highly anticipated by me. It was per-internet, but I must have read the article about the making of the movie in Premiere Magazine a dozen times waiting for it to come out.

reply

I saw it in the theater in first run. I was 27. I had the VHS when it came out, then got the Blu-ray when it came out.

reply

I did - I even remember what theater I was at. It was great fun and tons of kids in the audience. It got a lot of hype because Lucas was attached to it.

reply

I did! I wasn't impressed, though. I thought it was a collection of Fantasy genre clichés lumped together without skill, and time hasn't changed my opinions... except about Warwick Davis. I wasn't impressed by his performance here, but he's been excellent in everything else I've ever seen him in.

Really, the only thing that really wowed me was the CGI transformation scene.

reply

Agreed. We were mostly disappointed, though not as badly as we would later be by Howard the Duck.

reply

I saw "HtD" on YouTube last year, out of curiosity!

It was worse than i remembered.

reply

I can well imagine. I think the misunderstanding there was a fundamental one. It should have been essentially a character piece, not an action-adventure.

reply

And it really shouldn't have featured an interspersed romance. Ick!

reply

A memory I had already suppressed!

reply

I did, I was 11 and it was epic at the time. I’m 44 now and I have the dvd. Good memories.

reply

I did not. but remember it being in cinemas.. felt like an officially sanctioned Star Wars substitute film due to the Lucasfilm credit (more so than Slipstream, Masters of the Universe around same time)

Years later when I saw some of it on tv I'm quite glad I didn't see it at the cinema 😄

reply

I did. I remember cracking up at Kevin Pollak. Can't remember his character's name. I also thought Val Kilmer was good looking.
