Too dark for a "kids movie"

And horrible pacing.

An adult baby wishing he had a bigger dick (or dinky) is kind of smutty too.

This movie had so much potential, but it needed to be a kids movie not a slow paced detective throw back story.

Well I didn't like it as a kid and I still don't like it now.

reply

It is clear to me now that I'm an adult, that this never was a "kids movie".
It is only seen as such by people, who believe that any cartoon is just for kids.

reply

They marketed it for kids back in the day. I had a Rodger bunny.

reply

[deleted]

Of course, but that doesn't make the marketing right.

reply

The book is even darker

reply

That is very much possible, but I know nothing about the book.

reply

This is a book? I didn't know that.

reply

Yes there is a book and its way more dark than the movie

reply

Never knew about the book. Thanks.

I was a kid when this came out and I always loved it when it was on TV.

The only thing that ever frightened me was Judge Doom's eyes at the end 😬

reply

Me too. He was pretty freaky.

I think that kids like dark stories though.

reply

It's like "Gremlins": it looks like it's for kids, for it can be for adults as well, and it all depends on the child (I was 24 before I realized how dark "Gremlins" was). I agree that kids like dark stories, and it all depends on the temperament of the kid in question (Me? I was ready for Freddy!)

I love dark stories and was watching horror movies quite young and reading horror stories. I remember getting in trouble from a lunchroom supervisor in elementary school (I think grade 6) because I was reading the novel for Friday the 13th part II. I was like already have seen the movie, and the sequels.

reply

Yeah, I remember being in 3rd grade and trying to get my hands on the novelization of "A Nightmare on Elm Street" that the bookmobile issued out, but this 4th grader named Kevin kept it FOREVER (heck, he probably never gave it back:-).

I think it was at a slumber party in grade 3 or 4 we were watching NOES 3 (maybe 2) and a couple of girls didn't want to watch it so they went and put on crazy makeup and grabbed knives from the kitchen and came screaming down the stairs. My friend's mom was not impressed and we weren't allowed horror movies at her house any more. lol

reply

Haha, good story, but some crazy girls!

reply

In the UK you had to be 15 to see Gremlins

reply

Disagree. There are plenty of completely tame kids movies. Didn't need another one. And some kids appreciate slightly edgy. I liked this as a kid, and I like it as an adult.

It’s partly based on the General Motors streetcar conspiracy

reply

It’s not a ‘kids movie’.

Much like the original Loony Tunes cartoons it focuses on being funny with classic slapstick and silliness, not pandering to children.

Children like cartoons and the filmmakers knew they’d fill the seats, but the movie plays to an intelligent adult boomer audience who would appreciate the Noir and references to old movies and cartoons.

I saw it as a kid and thoroughly enjoyed it, and the darker moments were highlights.

The film has a longevity that leaves child pandering guff like Space Jam in the dust.
