Loved It In '88...Not So Much Now

Wife (then GF) used to eat these kinds of movies up, and we both thought Waxwork was a fantastic movie when we first saw it, so when it popped up on El Rey, we were in.

Boyo, this thing doesn't hold up well at all. Choppy editing, Zach Galligan's stiff performance...the best things were David Warner and Patrick Macnee.

I watched it on El Rey in HD last night... for the first time. It is not a great movie. The editing really is terrible.. I mean beyond belief, terrible. I kept trying to figure out if the cinematographer ruined the movie or the editor.. and I think you are correct. It was the editor. Now the cast is quite good... I am a big fan of all of these actors and if you grew up in the '80s, you probably are, too. I would recommend seeing this on El Rey in HD just too experience this lost film featuring some really cool talent from a bygone era.... but the movie is pretty amateur hour as far as the craft of film making is concerned.

I always felt the ending with the final battle was miserable. It was decent up to that point. I agree though, the editing and more likely, the way a lot of shots were framed were bad.
