There are many similarities
End of the world due to the release of evil beings
A setting that doesn't appear tobe what it actually is
A girl (a virgin in both films) and guy being the last ones standing at the end of the film
A hand appearing at the hand of the film about to wreck havoc on the rest of the world.

I wouldn't be surprised if Joss Whedon was influenced by this movie.
The character of China always seemed like a prototype for Buffy the Vampire Slayer (but closer to the Kristy Swanson version).
Sure it was, but this is better.
shareCabin in The Woods is based on all types of horror movies, not just this one in particular. That was kind of the point.

When I watched Cabin In The Woods and saw all the monsters being released and going on the attack at the end, the first thing I thought of was Waxwork.
