A proper adaption of the book....

...first, let me preface this by saying - I loved both the book, and this movie. I take the movie for what it is, and it's an enjoyable monster thriller. The reason being, I've always been able to compartmentalise the book and the film as seperate entities.

The thing is, to me at least, that the book is in a bit of a funny zone, movie adaption wise. Overall the story is eminently adaptable as a monster thriller, but the details of the story make it incredibly hard to turn into a faithful adaption. There's too many plot threads entwining to the climax, and unlike a lot of other books, they're pretty much all crucial to the story. Unless they did make it a full miniseries, they couldn't film the book as a faithful adaption.

So, I love the book, and I enjoy the film for what it is, because I doubt we're ever going to see a full adaption of the book.

Give me a hedgehog and I'll show you.
