Anachronisms

I've just finished watching this film and I think it's a masterpiece. It's a shame about the low score. Shame on you American neo-cons. I'd read about the anachronisms and was waiting for them. The first anachronism I noticed was them reading 'Newsweek' in the carriage. Did I miss any before that?

reply

After they were reading the color covered Newsweek, a late model Toyota was show passing some horses or a carrige. Both had to be on purpose!

reply

No sh!t, Sherlock.

reply

No i think both are because of budget restrictions and accidents. when the camera was already rolling the only shots they had money for accidently had newsweek and a toyota in it...

reply

i doubt that, especially since the cover of newsweek has ed harris' face on it and if i remember correctly the headline on it reads something like "Hero of Nicaragua"

there's also another earlier anachronism after the first battle where Walker's men stand around a beached fishing boat.

reply

I thought it was hilarious that the next headline on top of the cover of Newsweek was one about priests and little boys...that was one of my favorite parts of the film.

A Mercedes. Classic Coke bottle. Obviously deliberate anachronisms begin about when the film starts falling apart. The film doesn't work, and I'm on the other pole from neocons.

reply

You disagree with felow moviegoers and decide to use a baseless stereotype to label those who disagree with you? How American of you, you are such a dutiful citizen of the globe!

In an earlier scene, there is a sign along the roadside that reads "Sam Peckinpah"

"No man is just a number"

IIRC, I think the first one is the zippo lighter used to light the gunpowder in the first battle scene.

reply

I think a lot of the dialogue is pretty anachronistic throughout. I mean, just in the opening scene, Walker says to someone "Don't be so silly, man." Plus, profanity is used in a pretty modern way.

If I can remember, Walker wore the tennis shoes while leading in march with his soldiers

Did anyone see the portable TV in one of the scenes?

Walker also appears on the front cover of Time......

I remember watching the movie a while ago and I remember the sudden appearance of the car (I thought it was a Mercedes) and some other bits.

reply

Are there any other movies besides "Walker" that contains anachronisms?
