Yep, I totally agree with you.
I've got the movie on VHS but if it they ever release it on DVD, I'll have to go and get it...

We'll just have to settle with "Summer School" DVD, for now =)

reply

The Vibes VHS tape still has a retail price of about $80. Someone told me the movie is tied up in some type of ownership problems and will probably never be put on DVD. But hope springs eternal... love this movie ... drives my husband crazy ... but I watch it all the time. WE NEED THIS MOVIE ON DVD. also "The Experts" with John Travolta and "Bad Medicine" with Steve Guttenberg.

reply

I agree! This movie should be on DVD....I loved it.

cant wait for the extra features if it comes to dvd!!!

Haven't we met before? Weren't you the one who damned me to hell?

reply

I'LL BUY THE DVD! BRING IT ON!!!!

reply

The DVD would be superb! It seems like there would be enough Cyndi Lauper fans out there (not to mention Jeff Goldblum fans) to persuade Columbia or Sony or whoever now has the rights to get this project moving! How can we petition for the DVD? Anyone know? Is this the 21st century or what?!!!

reply

I too am eagerly awaiting the announcement that "VIBES" is going to be released on DVD. A fun movie!

reply

I just bought the VHS tape and made a copy of it so I won't wear out the original. I'll just watch the copy and save the original.

Due to Murphy's Law; however, this means that the DVD release should be announced soon because I've broken down and BOUGHT the VHS tape.

So keep a look out!

I absolutely love the delivery of that line.

I recorded Vibes on INHD or HDNET on my HD-DVR which is twice the resolution of a DVD. They regularly play movies "Not available on DVD". It was great. I watched that movie over and over... until I got a new HD-DVR box and lost the movie. Now I have to wait for it to come on again. I wish they'd release it on DVD or HD-DVD.

reply

I did the same, just taped it off of HDNET2 last night. 100x better quality than you'd EVER get from a VHS or VHS transfer. Great quality.

Oh you're awesome thanks :)

I believe this information gets passed on to the studio if the response is overwhelming enough. So, get your friends to vote :)

I've written the studio and the distributor. Currently, there are no plans at all concerning this film.

But yeah. I'll do a link thing.

Unfortunately, it's a bootleg since the studios have no intention of releasing this on DVD.

As much as I love this quirkly little movie, I almost wouldn't care. But I do care, and won't pay for a bootleg. Ah well.

Well, according to the distributing studio, which I have emailed, as of currently, they have no plans to do the transfer.

Which studio is it?

reply

The studio is Columbia. Neither they, nor their parent corporation ... well, to quote them, "Currently, there is no plan to release Vibes on DVD media." blah blah blah

No, no explaination just that there is no current plan for the DVD release.

It's a real shame. This movie could USE the restorative processes involved in digitizing and remastering of a cult classic. From every indication I have seen, this movie has more than a decent following. At any rate, I certainly would buy it.

In my opinion, for what that's worth to anyone, I would love a 2 disk director's cut of this work. It has some great elements, tells an interesting and witty story, and offers some fine entertainment value. If there is any film left from the editing, I wouldn't mind an extended version with inteviews, and a making of documentary. Perhaps an included poster or interactive DVD with maps of ancient cities about Peru and the Peruvian areas; Tihuanico [however of the hundreds of ways you'd like to spell that], being among them.

I can't understand why they don't even have a WalMart $2/11 bargain version of this. I mean ... they have Starship Troopers 2 on DVD, but not Vibes? What IS the world coming to? But seriously, I know many people, myself included, who would buy this on DVD. I realize it takes quite a bit to manufacture and market these movies, not to mention the tech costs of producing the work itself in a remastered or restored form, but it should be well worth the investment reqired.

Personally [again], I think the studios are dropping the ball by not releasing this one on DVD, and frankly, if they released it during the dead of Winter when there was nothing interesting in the theaters, and the Yule rush for DVD's is over, I think it would sell quite well even among casual viewers, considering it features Jeff Goldblum, Cyndi Lauper, Julian Sands, and Peter Falk. Jeff alone has gained a large following, and the many of us familiar with Full Moon Productions, think of Julian Sands fondly. I don't understand it, myself.

I do believe that the studios must think the cost in comparison to their estimated projected sales potential make this move cost prohibitive. I also believe, however, they are wrong about that.

I agree 100 Percent with that last post.

Also, I believe the studio underestimates this movie. It really is right up there with other cult classics. They seem to air Vibes on Comedy Central at least once a year. Honestly, that's saying a lot. Comedy Central really only shows movies that they deem "worthy."

At any cost, I hope they get it in gear and release this soon because I'm not sure how much longer my VHS is going to hold on.
