Cyndi Lauper

Overall this movie was OK, but Cyndi Lauper is a fantastic actress! She was so funny and witty. This movie should really be released on DVD for the Cyndi fans.

i completely agree. i remember when this film came out. i was only 11, but i made mom take me to see it b/c it had cyndi lauper. i rewatched it a few months ago, and while it really is cheesy...i still loved watching cyndi do her thing. i saw her in concert 2 years ago, and she mentioned this movie. the crowd went wild!

Not to insult Jeff Goldblum and Peter Falk, but both these fine actors looked like they were just collecting a paycheck. Cyndi is what made this movie fun to watch. Too bad her acting career hasn't taken off....yet!

Are you kidding? Jeff Goldblum and Peter Falk were great in this movie!

This is the best performance Jeff Goldblum has given. Cyndi was wonderful, especially talking to psychic guide "Louise". I'd love to see this on DVD with Cyndi commentary. I remember she mentioned "Vibes" on David Letterman (circa 1990) and two or three people applauded when she did. Cyndi said, with a chuckle, "Those are the only people who saw it." David Letterman asked her, "So this was a good movie?" and she said, "It had a good cast." She mentioned all the main stars, and Letterman asked her how did she do. Cyndi answered, "I thought I did OK for what it was, but I had a good teacher."

might be goldblum’s best performance

Folks, I found the DVD on e-Bay as a Buy it Now, priced at $9.95. It's a Japanese import (the only country to release it in DVD format). It hasn't arrived, so I can't comment on the quality, but I can't imagine it isn't at least VHS quality.

reply

I agree.
Not all that bad a movie... but Cyndi was GREAT in it! (as best I remember)
I've only ever seen it once, a few years after it was released for video rental. (I've been waiting to see it released on DVD for quite a few years now!)
Anybody know where to join the campaign for DVD releases? I read something about there being a web site out there, somewhere!
Anybody know the address??

ever since I saw this as a little kid, I've always been fascinated with that part of South America. I'm actually hiking the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu next month, partly inspired by this movie's depiction of the awesomeness of stumbling upon some grand, mysterious, and mystical stone ruins with the pipes playing in the background. A fantasy, yes, but inspiring nonetheless!

I'm jealous!! While you're climbing, you should have your entire group sing the choruses of "I gotta a hole in my heart that goes all the way to China"!

reply

hahaha, jon-sieruga. I don't think the rest of my group quite appreciates "Vibes" the way I do. But I will make it my mission on the last day to sing that song, and fill it up with love. ;) They'll probably think I'm crazy and talking in tongues, and then I can just tell them that I'm being momentarily occupied by Louise...

reply

hahaha...so let 'em think your crazy...maybe you'll find the Lost City of Gold!

Not only did she perform well, but did you notice? She's got a GREAT bod!!!!

Cyndi Lauper was the only reason i wanted to watch this movie and she's awesome. I wished she'd do more films.

Pleased to see her in an episode of 'Bones' which is one of my favourite shows on television.

cyndi was GREAT in this and yes, she was smokin' hot (if sears wants to sell somthin' they put it in the winda). it's a shame she is not more proud of it. even though it was not well received, that doesn't mean it's not a great movie. many movies and other works of art are not appreciated initially but gain a following in time. I suspect that will happen with "vibes". one day, long after I'm feeding the worms, this movie will be talked about like "beverly hills cop".

"now I'm going to have to kill you"
"Ingo no, I'm sure there will be another nurse along any minute"

reply

I agree, she has a naturalness that exceeded many professional actors/actresses of that time and now. I sure wish she had done more movie. I can't help but think of another eighties music Icon whose acting in movies just made me cringe and yet she continued to make movie after movie and each flopped. Yet, here we have Cyndi Lauper who displayed a real acting talent who didn't pursue it any further. Amazing!

Correction:

Just checked her filmography, apparently she has been working regularly as an actress. Good for her! Now I just have to search out the titles online somewhere...
